U.S. Marshals

The U.S. Marshals are federal lawmen operating across the United States, generally responsible for a county at a time. They work alongside local lawmen when needed and appear beside the United States Army, the Pinkerton National Detective Agency and the Bureau of Investigation. Leigh Johnson, Slim Grant and Tom Davies are among the Marshals encountered across the Red Dead series, whose duties include pursuing gangs and wanted criminals.

In Red Dead Online, a group of Marshals joins local authorities at Fort Mercer to eliminate Teddy Brown's Boys. Horley and the protagonist's posse assist them in the assault. Tom Davies later works with the protagonist against Alfredo Montez and other members of the Del Lobo gang. The Marshals remain part of the law enforcement presence in the United States, dealing with outlaws alongside sheriffs, deputies and other authorities.

In Red Dead Redemption 2, Marshals appear as a higher level response when the law has been heavily attacked in a town. A large Marshal posse confronts the Van der Linde gang during "Sodom? Back to Gomorrah". Slim Grant appears later in "The Noblest of Men, and a Woman V", bringing a Marshal into the final stage of the gunslinger search. Outside these appearances, Marshals continue to pursue serious offenders in towns.

In Red Dead Redemption, John Marston meets Marshal Leigh Johnson in New Austin and works with him against the gangs operating there. Their campaign leads to the assault on Fort Mercer and the destruction of Bill Williamson's gang. Much later, Marshals join the United States Army and the Bureau of Investigation in the attack on Beecher's Hope. The force kills John Marston and Uncle there.
