With the heat in Valentine having died down, Bill decides it's finally time to hit the bank. Karen causes a distraction while Arthur handles the vaults.

Player notes

At Clemens Point, Bill Williamson calls Arthur Morgan over and reveals that he and Karen Jones have arranged a robbery of the Valentine bank. Arthur is doubtful, but agrees to ride with them. Lenny Summers joins the job, and the four change clothes before leaving camp. As they prepare to depart, Leopold Strauss tells Arthur that Thomas Downes has died and directs him to collect the unpaid debt from Downes's widow.

The group rides through The Heartlands to Valentine and leaves their horses outside town. Karen enters the bank first, posing either as a drunk harlot or a lost woman, and draws the attention of its staff and customers. Arthur, Bill and Lenny then enter with guns drawn. Lenny passes Karen a key to the door behind the counter, while Arthur forces a teller to unlock the vault.

Inside the vault, the teller admits he cannot open the safes. Arthur either works the locks himself or places dynamite on them and lights the fuse. With the cash taken, the gang reunites and heads outside. Lawmen converge on the bank, forcing Arthur, Bill, Karen and Lenny to fight their way to their horses if the blast has alerted them, or to make their escape as the law catches up.

The four ride out of Valentine under pursuit, shooting at mounted lawmen until a passing train separates them from the chase. They divide the bank money, and Arthur leaves them to visit Downes Ranch. Edith Downes gives him the debt after Arthur speaks with her and has a brief confrontation with her son. Arthur warns the boy against seeking revenge, then rides back to Clemens Point.

Trivia

  • โ—†The title is a reference to the Biblical towns of Sodom and Gomorrah that were destroyed in the Book of Genesis.
  • โ—†Even if the random event where Edith Downes comes to the camp to say that her husband died occurred, Arthur will still act as though he was unaware of this.
  • โ—†Depending on whether the player opts to start this mission before or after completing the mission "Preaching Forgiveness as He Went" they will get a different string of dialogue if they choose to talk to Lenny during the ride from Clemens Point to Valentine. If the player has done "Preaching Forgiveness as He Went" before the Valentine Bank Robbery Arthur can ask about "[That] gang at Shady Belle" and get a conversation between Lenny and Arthur about the Lemoyne Raiders that is otherwise not available.
  • โ—†During the final part of the mission, there are three bits of foreshadowing quotes that Arthur will remember later on in the game depending on his Honor. The first two lines from Edith Downes about her husband Thomas, recalled in "A Fork in the Road", are: "He didn't have a choice. He was good and he did good" (if Arthur's Honor is high); and "And you've as good as killed him yourself..." (if his Honor is low). The last line will be from Arthur himself if his Honor is low during the final ride to camp in the "Red Dead Redemption" mission: "You speak as if killing is something I cared about."
  • โ—†If the player takes too long to unlock the safes if they decide to crack them, the law will show up outside and the player will have to fight their way back to the horses, just like the option of blowing open the safes.
  • โ—†The Valentine Sheriff Curtis Malloy is not present during the bank robbery. However, he can be seen in his office when the gang arrives in town.
  • โ—†In the bank there will be two lawmen instead of the usual one that acts as a guard and both of them will have unique outfits that are unseen prior to the mission.
  • โ—†This is the only time where the Saints Hotel owner and the doctor Ben Calloway can be seen in the bank.
  • โ—†The last lawman on horseback is riding a Rose Grey Andalusian, although a method to keep it has not yet been found.
  • โ—†On Patch 1.00, it is possible to keep the robbery outfit after the mission. The player must abandon the mission after the first cutscene plays out and retry the checkpoint. After restarting the checkpoint, the outfit will glitch and will be stored on the horse once the mission is complete. The money bag, however, cannot be saved.
  • โ—†Before entering the vault, a pink jewelry box can be seen on the desk. Shooting it will allow Arthur to pick it up.
  • โ—†If the player successfully cracks all the safes and does not alert the law by sparing the patrons and do the heist in silent, they will get a slight honor boost. Shooting the pink jewelry box will automatically alert the law no matter what and will not award the Honor boost.
  • โ—†During the mission, the player's current horse saddle will be replaced with the standard Kneller Mother Hubbard during the mission, though pausing the menu and viewing the horse's player profile will still show the stats of the current saddle. This can be fixed after the mission by simply removing the saddle from the horse and then putting it back on.
  • โ—†If the player visits the Wallace Station General Store after the mission, the owner will comment about the robbery, telling Arthur that he's glad he doesn't keep his money in Valentine because "some gang cleared that bank out."
