Player notes

Boadicea is an unseen horse in Red Dead Redemption 2, known as Arthur Morgan's mount before the Van der Linde gang reaches Colter. Arthur acquires her sometime before that journey and becomes deeply attached to her. He later describes Boadicea as "quite a horse," and his recollections make clear that she is more than a temporary mount to him.

Arthur loses Boadicea before the events at Colter, though the circumstances of her loss are not described. Without her, he borrows Taima for a time. Taima is only a temporary replacement, and Arthur soon obtains another horse after losing Boadicea.

Hosea Matthews later asks Arthur whether he has found a replacement. Arthur says that his new horse is acceptable, but that it is no Boadicea. Boadicea never appears in person during the game, but Arthur's remarks establish the bond they shared before the story begins.

Trivia

  • โ—†There is much speculation as to what Boadicea looked like and what breed of horse she was.
  • โ—†One popular theory suggests that she is the cut Liver Chestnut Hungarian Half-bred, as the horse possesses high stats and the horse's color and breed would fit the description of what is most likely her namesake: Boudica, the red-haired Celt queen who was famous for her prowess in war.
  • โ—†However, datamining has found that the Liver Chestnut Hungarian Half-bred was intended to be ridden by Alfredo Montez in Red Dead Online. Despite this, it is still an unfounded possibility that the horse was originally intended to be Boadicea, but was scrapped, and then repurposed for Montez only to be scrapped again.
  • โ—†Another theory suggests that she is the bareback horse who stares at Arthur with perked up ears in his journal drawing of Blackwater during the prologue.
  • โ—†This is further supported by the fact that Arthur will draw every unique breed of horse he rides in his journal, with this being the only horse he draws prior to Colter.
  • โ—†Boadicea's fate is currently unknown, but given as Arthur refers to her only in the past tense, it's speculated that she had been killed during the course of the Blackwater Massacre.
  • โ—†In camp, there is an item called "Arthur's horseshoe" which appears hanging next to photos of Lyle, Dutch, Hosea, and Copper and due to the sentimental nature of most items at Arthur's tent, it is unconfirmed but possible that it belonged to Boadicea.
