Player notes
The Standard Horse is a large, bay-coated horse type in Red Dead Redemption 2. Its design has some resemblance to the American Standardbred, although it is treated as a separate breed in the game. It has Heavy handling and the lowest speed, acceleration, health and stamina ratings.
It appears in various cutscenes rather than as a horse sold by a stable or awarded through an activity. In "Motherhood", John Marston brushes one at the start of the mission, while a postal carrier rides another. The horse also appears in other story scenes as a mount used by characters in the background or during scripted events.
The Standard Horse is used as a scene and mission horse, not as a regular player mount. It cannot normally be obtained or ridden. During "Motherhood", John can brush and feed the horse, and can loot its saddlebags.
Trivia
- โThis horse was apparently originally intended to be used in place of the Raven Black Shire given to Arthur Morgan by Hosea Matthews during the mission "Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego" as seen in the Official Gameplay Reveal trailer for the game , but this model was removed from the game entirely in an update.
- โThe horse can also be seen being ridden by Uncle during this same gameplay trailer.
- โBuell is also replaced by this horse in the trailer as well.
- โInternally, this horse is used as a sort of placeholder in many cutscene files and is typically replaced with another horse through a script. There are only a small handful of exceptions to this, leading to the horse appearing in the aforementioned missions.
- โThere is also no compendium data as through normal means this horse cannot be studied.
- โSometime after the 1.00 version, this horse's expressions were changed resulting in the horse looking generic as opposed to being a draft breed.
- โThe horse will appear on the title screen being ridden by Arthur Morgan, specifically if the player has purchased Red Dead Online but not the game's Story Mode.
