Player notes

At Beecher's Hope, Abigail argues with Uncle over his lack of work. John backs Uncle's usefulness as best he can, and Abigail decides that she and John need time away from the ranch. Before they leave, Duncan and Angus Geddes arrive from Pronghorn Ranch with furniture for the Marstons. It is a gift in return for John's help against the Laramie Gang. John and Abigail accept it gratefully, then set off together in the wagon.

John drives Abigail through Great Plains to Blackwater, where they leave the wagon and walk to Benjamin P. Lockhart's Photo Studio. They pose for a portrait together, with Abigail amused by the result. Outside, she says she has never seen a moving picture. John takes her across the street to the Imperial Theatre, and they sit together for a screening of "Sketching for Sweetheart."

After the show, John and Abigail head down to the shore. They borrow a canoe and row onto the lake as evening settles over Blackwater. John stops the boat away from the shore, takes out a ring, and gets down on one knee. He asks Abigail to marry him. Surprised and happy, she accepts, and they kiss in the canoe.

The following morning, John quietly leaves Abigail sleeping in their bed at Beecher's Hope. He walks out to the fence and watches the sun rise over the ranch.

Trivia

  • โ—†Abigail says she has never seen a film, and John reacts with incredulity. This is strange as cinema would have been unheard of in the West prior to their meeting in 1894, and since leaving the gang in 1899 they have spent almost every waking moment together, meaning that John would be well aware of this.
  • โ—†At the start of the mission, if John does not interfere in Uncle and Abigail's conversation, the game will make the player walk to them by itself.
  • โ—†Several aspects of this mission have similarities with Arthur Morgan's experiences:
  • โ—†John and Abigail going to the theater mirrors what Arthur and Mary Linton decide to do while they are together in Saint Denis. Also, when John gets the ring at the start, he is also holding a picture of young Arthur and Mary.
  • โ—†John saying "It would make me very happy" is very similar to Arthur's high-Honor line "It would mean a lot to me" when urging Marston to run and find his family during the mission "Red Dead Redemption" (if the player went with John). Incidentally, this mission is also based around John being with his family.
  • โ—†This mission ends with John on the ranch watching the sunrise, which is the final thing Arthur sees if he died with high Honor.
  • โ—†There is an unused cutscene for this mission where John and Abigail can be seen arriving at Beecher's Hope.
  • โ—†The mission icon features John with his NPC hair, which is impossible to use in-game.
