Player notes
Arthur Morgan meets John Marston and Javier Escuella at the stables of Caliga Hall, where Tavish Gray proposes a job against the Braithwaites. Gray says their prized horses can be sold for $5,000 if the gang takes them to a buyer. Arthur, John and Javier ride for Braithwaite Manor, deciding that they need to get inside without provoking a fight.
At the manor's southern entrance, John passes the group off as prospective investors interested in the stables. A guard admits them to the grounds. Arthur speaks to a stablehand, who eventually agrees to show the visitors the valuable horses and recounts their backgrounds. Arthur silences the man, then the three outlaws cover their faces and take possession of the horses.
John leads the escape from Braithwaite Manor while Javier handles the tethered animals and Arthur guards the rear. Braithwaite men give chase across Scarlett Meadows. One stallion breaks free, but Arthur catches it with his lasso and returns it to the group. They bring the horses to Clay Davies at Clemens Point, where Clay offers far less than Gray promised. The men accept the sale and return to Clemens Point.
Trivia
- โThis mission reuses concepts from the 'Nice House Heist' (also called "The Sharmoota Heist") that was cut from Grand Theft Auto V.
- โIn both missions the player poses as a buyer looking to invest in an antagonist's property.
- โOnce inside, the crew has to steal some horses valued at $5,000 (in the case of the deleted mission, Madrazo's valuable horse or horses). In GTA V however, the player has to grant themselves access to the stables by stealing first the key to them located in a safe inside the house.
- โBlaine County police cut scanners mention three different types of horses: brown, black and white; the Arabians the gang have to rob are also three and of similar features.
- โWhen talking to Tavish Gray, Arthur mentions that they met his son, the sheriff, referring to Leigh Gray. This cannot be true, however, as Beau Gray mentions that the two are brothers, not father and son. This is most likely a developer oversight.
- โIf the player decides to dismount their horse at the beginning of the mission and talk to Tavish Gray, an additional dialogue can be heard: They can either greet or antagonize Gray. If the player chooses to antagonize him Arthur will mockingly tell Gray that he seems to want to play them (Arthur, John, and Javier) for fools telling them that someone would pay them $5000 for stolen horses. If the player greets Gray, Arthur will just thank him for entrusting him with the task of procuring the Braithwaite horses.
- โThere are several different ways to deal with the stablehand before taking the horses:
- โOne way is to strangle him to death (as mentioned above) while he is talking about the horses.
- โAnother way is to hogtie him instead of killing him. Arthur will tell him to keep quiet and that they are taking the horses before John says to put their bandanas on.
- โA third way is to wait until he has described all three horses and Javier will knock him out.
- โDepending on whether the player starts this mission before or after "The Fine Joys of Tobacco", Arthur's conversation with the guards at the entrance of Caliga Hall, John's conversation with Tavish Gray and the conversation of Arthur, John, and Javier upon riding away from Caliga Hall will alter: If the burning down of the tobacco crops has already taken place by the time the player starts this mission, Arthur, upon arriving at Caliga Hall, will tell the guards at the entrance that they seem nervous to which they will respond by explaining that they have had some "trouble," at the stable. Tavish Gray can be overheard by the player telling Javier and John that he is suspicious due to the burning down of his fields to which John ensures that he and his associates had nothing to do with that and that he prefers smoking tobacco over burning it, and upon riding away from the estate Arthur discloses to John and Javier (who were unaware of that until that point) that he and Sean were the ones that burnt down the Grays' fields, remarking that the task of burning down rich peoples' property made Sean happy "like a pig in shit." If the tobacco mission hasn't been completed yet, Arthur tells John and Javier that Hosea and Sean had better keep their heads down as they would be at the Manor by the time they arrive to steal the horses.
- โThe stolen horses are marked with the Braithwaite insignia on their backside, which is probably how Clay knew they didn't belong to the gang members.
- โIt's possible to keep any one of the stolen horses for yourself without failing the mission so long as you bond with it until it becomes your temporary horse before giving them to Clay, riding back over to them as soon the mission is over, stabling them, and then saving, and reloading the game.
- โDuring this mission, Arthur removes his Sheriff's Badge from Sheriff Gray seemingly to not tip off the Braithwaites.
- โJohn mentions Arthur's real surname, Morgan, to Tavish, instead of his made up surname, Callahan.
