John is thanked by Mr. Geddes for his help with the Laramie Gang, and John turns in for the night, only to be woken by a raid on the ranch.

Player notes

David Geddes thanks John Marston for helping Pronghorn Ranch against the Laramie Gang, though he remains uneasy about the men. John returns home, eats with Abigail, Jack and Uncle, and goes to bed. During the night, gunfire wakes him. He runs outside in his long johns to find the Laramies raiding the ranch, with buildings and stables burning as they drive off Geddes's cattle.

John finds Tom Dickens under attack and helps protect him from the raiders. David arrives with Abe and explains that a ranch hand has been killed and the gang has taken the herd. He asks John to recover the cattle. John goes back inside for his gun belt and weapons. Abigail objects to him joining the fight, but John rides out with Tom and Abe toward Hanging Dog Ranch in Big Valley.

Near Hanging Dog Ranch, John has Tom provide cover while Abe circles around the buildings. John approaches the Laramies and confronts them, but the exchange becomes a gunfight. He, Tom and Abe push through the ranch and kill the gang members holding the place. A Laramie inside the barn calls John out, and John enters to deal with him.

The gang's leader ambushes John from behind in the barn. John fights him off, forces him to the ground and kills him with the man's own gun. With the ranchers dead, John rides back with Tom and Abe to Pronghorn Ranch. David thanks him again. At the house, Abigail is angry that John involved himself, while John insists he was doing the job he had been given. The following morning, he recalls Arthur Morgan's advice.

  • โ—†The title is extremely similar to the Red Dead Redemption mission "Landon Ricketts Rides Again"
  • โ—†The default hat that John wears during this mission is Arthur's hat.
  • โ—†The scene where John opens the trunk features numerous errors:
  • โ—†He swings out the Cattleman's cylinder as if it were a swing-loaded gun, which is extremely unlikely for a single action revolver and unlike any other Cattleman in the game.
  • โ—†Sadie's carbine appears in the trunk instead of John's.
  • โ—†John's denim vest in the trunk uses an older, darker texture than the one seen in-game.
  • โ—†If "Fatherhood, For Idiots" wasn't completed before this mission, the line John remembers from Arthur is taken from "The Sheep and the Goats".
  • โ—†It is possible to save Mr. Tolbert if the player is fast enough to kill the Laramies before they take him out. If this is done he will just be standing there motionless.
  • โ—†During this mission, the player as John can loot the house at Hanging Dog Ranch and find some valuable items such as: a Gold-Jointed Bracelet, Coin Purse, Lockbox on the second floor with $110.00, and a Cleaver. All the items (except the cleaver) are the same as the ones that can be looted beforehand as Arthur before or during the mission "Mrs. Sadie Adler, Widow II."
  • โ—†Sometimes, a bug can occur where, when wrestling with the Laramie gang leader, John will get stuck struggling despite repeated mashing of the "break free" prompt. This can easily be fixed by changing the button from "Tap" to "Hold".
