Player notes

Arthur Morgan meets Charles Smith at the Wapiti Indian Reservation after Eagle Flies is taken by the Army. At Charles's request, Arthur speaks with Rains Fall in his tent. Rains Fall fears for his son, calling Eagle Flies foolish but insisting that he loves him. Arthur decides to bring Eagle Flies back despite the chief's objections, then rejoins Charles. They ride through Cumberland Forest toward Fort Wallace, crossing the Dakota River on the way.

Charles explains that he has arranged canoes for their escape and condemns Dutch's use of the Wapiti's conflict. Arthur admits that he is dying. Charles tells him that knowing gives him time to put things right. Near Fort Wallace, they leave their horses and wait for darkness. The two men slip along the fort's outer wall, silently removing guards before Charles uses a rope to get them over it. They work through the grounds and reach a tower, where Arthur shoots a lantern to start a fire and draw soldiers away from the prison.

Charles kills the prison guard, and Arthur takes the keys and frees Eagle Flies. The alarm sounds as they leave the cell block, forcing them into a fight with Fort Wallace's soldiers. Arthur, Charles and Eagle Flies break through a weak section of wall, recover their horses and ride for the river under pursuit. They kill the remaining soldiers near Charles's canoes, then escape down the Dakota River. At the shore, Eagle Flies warns that Colonel Favours will answer this rescue with war. Charles takes Eagle Flies back to Wapiti, while Arthur remains by the river.

Trivia

  • โ—†After freeing Eagle Flies, players will automatically be equipped with the bow to the shoulder. If players already carry the bow using the long-arm back slot, it will be switched to the long-arm shoulder slot.
  • โ—†While infiltrating Fort Wallace, a pair of soldiers can be heard commenting on how boring it is to be guarding the fort for Colonel Favours instead of serving in the Philippines.
  • โ—†While sneaking through the fort, Arthur can preemptively shoot the lantern before Charles gives him the order. After which, Charles may use his sawed-off shotgun to kill a soldier, which would oddly not attract any attention from the other soldiers.
  • โ—†The player as Arthur can use the Dynamite Arrow as an alternative method to destroy the wall to escape with Charles and Eagle Flies, if they have found/bought the recipe pamphlet and crafted the arrow in question. Regular Dynamite works as well, as they can just place it on the wall and ignite.
  • โ—†Toward the end of the mission, Charles tells Arthur, "In a way, you were lucky", a line the latter remembers during his final ride in the "Red Dead Redemption" mission if his Honor is high.
