Player notes

At Beaver Hollow, Arthur finds Josiah Trelawny preparing to leave the gang. Trelawny says he intends to return, but Arthur tells him to go and stay away, seeing no hope in their situation. After Trelawny departs, Rains Fall arrives with Charles Smith. The Army has agreed to meet the Wapiti chief for talks, and Rains Fall asks Arthur and Charles to help prevent trouble. Arthur reluctantly joins them, and they ride into the Grizzlies East.

Colonel Favours and Captain Monroe wait at the meeting table. Rains Fall seeks a peaceful arrangement for his people, but Favours offers no real compromise. Arthur is overcome by a violent coughing fit, and Favours has a soldier lead him away to a tent for water. There, Arthur hears soldiers discussing Favours' plan to accuse Monroe of treason and have him hanged. Arthur returns as the meeting collapses and Rains Fall leaves.

Favours immediately orders Monroe arrested for insubordination and treason. Arthur and Charles seize a soldier, trading their hostage for Monroe before withdrawing to their horses. They flee the Army camp, but Monroe's horse is shot from beneath him. The three take cover among the trees while soldiers close in. Arthur and Charles hold off the pursuit, although Monroe refuses to fire on men he still considers fellow soldiers.

Once the attackers are gone, Monroe takes Arthur's horse and Arthur rides with Charles to Emerald Station. Arthur tells Monroe that Favours meant to hang him, then gives him money to begin a new life. Monroe boards a train. Charles leaves as Arthur suffers another coughing fit. If Arthur has helped Sister Calderón and retained high Honor, she speaks with him before leaving for Mexico. Otherwise, Reverend Swanson bids Arthur farewell before boarding the train.

Trivia

  • ◆At the end of this mission, Arthur interacts with Sister Calderon if "Of Men and Angels" has been completed and he has high Honor. If said mission has not been completed or Arthur has low Honor, he instead interacts with Reverend Swanson. If this mission is replayed in the PC version regardless of whether or not the Strangers mission was completed, Swanson will appear at the end by default.
  • ◆There are two bits of foreshadowing quotes that Arthur will remember during his final ride to camp in the "Red Dead Redemption" mission if his Honor is high:
  • ◆If Arthur completed "Of Men and Angels", then during the conversation with Sister Calderón, when he asks what he should do, she advises him with, "Be grateful that for the first time, you see your life clearly."
  • ◆If Arthur did not complete "Of Men and Angels", then during the conversation with Reverend Swanson, the latter tells him, "Save who you can and let the rest rot, and look after yourself."
  • ◆If Arthur rides with low honor, Swanson will say, "You lived your way, you'll die your way."
  • ◆If the player completed "Favored Sons" just before this mission, on the ride to the meeting, Charles will express anger at Dutch getting involved in the conflict between the US Army and the Wapiti Tribe, and getting Eagle Flies arrested, with Rains Fall adding that it won't help the Tribe's case.
  • ◆Once this mission is completed, Reverend Swanson and Josiah Trelawny will no longer be at camp.
  • ◆It is possible to kill Favours during the standoff, but it will result in a mission failure.
  • ◆A unique night train with two sleeping cars can be found at the end of the mission. You can get on it by jumping into it right after the mission. The train finally stops at Valentine Station, from where it no longer moves.
  • ◆Despite the song's title being named after the mission itself, and included in The Music of Red Dead Redemption 2: Original Score, nowhere in the mission does the song itself play, but only in Roanoke Ridge or Cumberland Forest outside of the mission.
  • ◆This is one of the few missions in the game where the player will not incur an honor loss for killing horses, the other ones being "Advertising, The New American Art", "Urban Pleasures" and "Our Best Selves".
  • ◆Further positioning Arthur to eavesdrop on the soldiers' conversation is optional.
