Player notes

Arthur finds Jamie among the Chelonians in Cumberland Forest, where the order closes around him as Arthur asks to speak with him. Jamie is startled by Arthur's arrival, but says he has chosen his path. The Chelonian Master steps forward and insists that Jamie has found safety with them. Arthur tells him that Mary is worried about her brother, then answers the Master's challenge about his own path. If the Master refuses access, Arthur forces the matter by knocking him unconscious.

Jamie still rejects Arthur's appeal and bolts for his horse. Arthur gives chase through Cumberland Forest as Jamie rides away, only for Jamie to fall and end up on the opposite side of a passing train. Arthur calls for him to stop. Once the train clears, Jamie raises his revolver and tries to shoot himself. Arthur draws on him and fires the gun from Jamie's hand before he can pull the trigger.

Jamie accepts that he has made a mistake after Arthur saves him. Arthur puts him on the horse and rides with him across New Hanover to Valentine. At Valentine Station, Mary is waiting for her brother. Arthur brings Jamie to her and the two meet inside the station.

Trivia

  • โ—†If the player shoots at one of the Chelonians, when Jamie flees, they will panic that one of their members has been slain and will jump off the cliff. However, this will lead to failing the mission.
  • โ—†Shooting at the cult members will also lower the player's honor.
  • โ—†After the player has saved Jamie, they can ride to Carmody Dell and visit Bob Crawford, who will comment on the events of the mission, "The Spines of America".
  • โ—†If the player attempts to choke the Chelonian Master with a knife equipped, the game will softlock in the cutscene as Arthur cannot complete the action.
  • โ—†Despite choking the Chelonian Master, the game still registers him as knocked out. This can not happen in normal gameplay.
  • โ—†When disarming Jamie, if the player has a Sawed-Off Shotgun as their sidearm, they will unwillingly kill Jamie and the mission will fail.
  • โ—†When riding into Valentine with Jamie, if the player strikes a pedestrian enough to make them hostile, Jamie will casually pull out his pistol and shoot the pedestrian dead. This will result in the player being wanted for murder, but if the player enters the cutscene in the train station, the wanted status will clear by the end of it, though lawmen can be seen running outside the building and peering through windows with guns drawn during the cutscene.
  • โ—†It is possible to duplicate any horse during this mission. To do so, start the mission with the horse you would like to duplicate. After you have Jamie on the back of your horse, wreck so that you and Jamie get dumped off. Immediately get back on the horse and ride off a ways, leaving Jamie behind. You can also just get off your horse, and when Jamie dismounts, get on and leave him behind. Jamie will catch up to you riding a duplicate of your horse. Before the mission ends, bond with the duplicate and make it your secondary horse.
