Antes de 1899, Ellie Anne Swan mata a su madre y a cuatro maridos, Frank, Henry, Howie y Willie. La oficina del sheriff de Valentine la considera sospechosa de los asesinatos y publica una recompensa por capturarla con vida para interrogarla. Conocida como la "Black Widow", sigue fugitiva en el estado de New Hanover.
Tras capturar a Benedict Allbright, Arthur Morgan encuentra el cartel de búsqueda de Ellie en la oficina del sheriff de Valentine. Va a Cumberland Falls, en The Heartlands, donde se la vio por última vez. Ellie está acompañada por un amante y le ordena que ataque a Arthur. Cuando Arthur la identifica como la Black Widow, ella lo niega, pero el hombre comprende quién es y le dice que debe entregarse.
Ellie responde apuñalándolo con su Hunting Knife. Después intenta atacar a Arthur, que la reduce, la ata y la lleva de regreso a Valentine. Durante el trayecto, ella procura convencerlo de que la deje marchar y le propone huir juntos. Arthur la entrega a Sheriff Malloy, le comunica que ha matado a otro amante y la deja en una celda de la oficina del sheriff.

- ◆She attempts to blackmail Sheriff Malloy to let her out of her cell by threatening to reveal his affair with Moira Calthorpe, but she is unsuccessful.
- ◆If the player is quick enough, they can save Swan's lover from being killed by hogtying her before she kills him. The sheriff will later remark how lucky he was to have survived.
- ◆If the player kills her lover before being spotted, Swan will say "Oh godammit, you got him. The sweet, dumb son of a bitch!"
- ◆Ellie Anne Swan appears to possess some understanding of her mental condition, claiming to the protagonist that she should be in an asylum rather than a prison.
