Player notes

Before 1899, Ellie Anne Swan murders her mother and four husbands, Frank, Henry, Howie and Willie. The Valentine Sheriff's Office suspects her of the killings and issues a bounty requiring that she be brought in alive for questioning. Known as the "Black Widow", she remains at large in the State of New Hanover.

After Arthur Morgan captures Benedict Allbright, he finds Ellie's wanted poster in the Valentine's sheriff's office. He follows the report of her last sighting to Cumberland Falls in The Heartlands. Ellie is there with a lover and tells him to attack Arthur. When Arthur identifies her as the Black Widow, she denies it, but her lover realizes who she is and urges her to surrender.

Ellie answers by stabbing the man with her Hunting Knife. She then goes after Arthur, who subdues and hogties her before carrying her back to Valentine. During the ride, she tries to persuade Arthur to release her and proposes that they flee together. Arthur delivers her to Sheriff Malloy, reports that she has killed another lover, and leaves her in a cell at the sheriff's office.

Trivia

  • โ—†She attempts to blackmail Sheriff Malloy to let her out of her cell by threatening to reveal his affair with Moira Calthorpe, but she is unsuccessful.
  • โ—†If the player is quick enough, they can save Swan's lover from being killed by hogtying her before she kills him. The sheriff will later remark how lucky he was to have survived.
  • โ—†If the player kills her lover before being spotted, Swan will say "Oh godammit, you got him. The sweet, dumb son of a bitch!"
  • โ—†Ellie Anne Swan appears to possess some understanding of her mental condition, claiming to the protagonist that she should be in an asylum rather than a prison.
  • โ—†After Ellie Anne Swan is behind bars, the protagonist can later visit her in jail up to three times and have unique conversations with her before she stops responding.
  • โ—†Sometimes Swan may be seen with facial hair while in jail.
