Avant 1899, Ellie Anne Swan assassine sa mère et ses quatre maris, Frank, Henry, Howie et Willie. Le bureau du shérif de Valentine la soupçonne de ces meurtres et émet une prime exigeant qu'elle soit amenée vivante pour être interrogée. Connue sous le nom de "Black Widow", elle demeure en fuite dans l'État de New Hanover.
Après avoir capturé Benedict Allbright, Arthur Morgan trouve l'avis de recherche d'Ellie dans le bureau du shérif de Valentine. Il suit le signalement de sa dernière apparition jusqu'à Cumberland Falls, dans The Heartlands. Ellie s'y trouve avec un amant et lui ordonne d'attaquer Arthur. Lorsqu'Arthur l'identifie comme la Black Widow, elle le nie, mais son amant comprend qui elle est et l'exhorte à se rendre.
Ellie répond en poignardant l'homme avec son Hunting Knife. Elle s'en prend ensuite à Arthur, qui la maîtrise et l'attache avant de la ramener à Valentine. Durant le trajet, elle tente de convaincre Arthur de la libérer et lui propose de fuir avec elle. Arthur la livre au Sheriff Malloy, lui signale qu'elle a tué un autre amant, puis la laisse dans une cellule du bureau du shérif.

- ◆She attempts to blackmail Sheriff Malloy to let her out of her cell by threatening to reveal his affair with Moira Calthorpe, but she is unsuccessful.
- ◆If the player is quick enough, they can save Swan's lover from being killed by hogtying her before she kills him. The sheriff will later remark how lucky he was to have survived.
- ◆If the player kills her lover before being spotted, Swan will say "Oh godammit, you got him. The sweet, dumb son of a bitch!"
- ◆Ellie Anne Swan appears to possess some understanding of her mental condition, claiming to the protagonist that she should be in an asylum rather than a prison.
