Player notes
Benedict Allbright is an American snake oil salesman operating in New Hanover. He travels the state selling a supposed miracle cure, though his medicine is counterfeit and is blamed for deaths. A $50 bounty is issued for him, requiring that he be brought in alive. After Uncle tells Arthur Morgan that Valentine has bounty work available, Arthur collects Allbright's poster from the sheriff's office. Sheriff Malloy identifies the wanted man and sends Arthur after him.
Arthur finds Allbright beside a campfire on a small cliff above the Dakota River at Cumberland Falls. Recognising the danger, Allbright hides his name when Arthur approaches. Arthur pretends that his mother is ill and asks to purchase the cure. Allbright eagerly begins bargaining, confirming who he is, and Arthur draws his weapon and orders him to surrender. Allbright denies wrongdoing and threatens to throw himself from the cliff. He loses his footing, and Arthur catches him before he falls onto the rocks below.
Once Arthur hauls him back up, Allbright continues protesting and leaps into the Dakota River. The current soon carries him away, and he calls for Arthur's help. Arthur follows the riverbank, pulls Allbright from the water and ties him up. He takes the prisoner back to Valentine and hands him over to Sheriff Malloy. Allbright is placed in the town jail, where he remains imprisoned as late as 1907.
Trivia
- โIf Benedict is looted after being captured, Arthur will receive a bottle of miracle cure. Ironically, it is perfectly safe for him to consume.
- โIf the player returns to the sheriff's office after the mission, Allbright will be sitting in his cell, and will sometimes curse the player for capturing him.
- โIf the Killer Prostitute is arrested, Allbright will be moved to the other cell.
- โIf the player goes to the red portion of the West Elizabeth's map with Allbright stowed on horseback, the whole area except Blackwater will be free to explore without any Pinkertons spawning. However, exploration into New Austin remains impossible, as the invisible sniper will still kill the player if they try to enter the territory.
- โDuring the Chapter 5 mission "Dear Uncle Tacitus", if the player heads to the saloon, they can see Allbright's poster on the wall, having replaced the one of Isabeau Katharina Zinsmeister.
- โAnother poster for Benedict can be found in the back room of the Valentine Doctor's Office, though it states he can be found frequenting the Valentine Oilfields. This is likely an earlier version of his bounty poster, as the very similar cut character Doc Wormwood was originally supposed to be found at the same location. Co-ordinates in the files show his original mission location near Cornwall Kerosene & Tar and animations suggest he was going to trip over a chicken crate.
- โAfter re-visiting the Valentine Sheriff's Office after capturing Allbright, Sheriff Malloy will tell the player that "Allbright was cursing them till his last" which suggests that Benedict was originally intended to be seen being hanged, however this cannot be seen. There also appears to be animations for the sheriff giving a speech at Allbright's hanging, further suggesting that this is the case.
