John Marston retrouve Edgar Ross et Archer Fordham à Blackwater, convaincu que le Bureau va enfin libérer sa famille maintenant que Bill Williamson et Javier Escuella ont été neutralisés. Ross lui ordonne plutôt de retrouver Dutch van der Linde, précisant qu'Abigail et Jack restent sous le contrôle du gouvernement tant que Dutch n'est pas mort. Les agents ont remonté la trace des hommes de Dutch jusqu'au Wreck of the Serendipity. Ross remet à John un High Power Pistol, puis les trois hommes quittent Blackwater en automobile.
À l'épave, Fordham remarque le silence inhabituel et accompagne John dans sa fouille des quais déserts. Des cris conduisent John à bord du navire, où il découvre un prisonnier ligoté et roué de coups, la tête recouverte d'un sac. Fordham l'identifie comme Nastas, l'informateur qui avait fourni la prétendue position de Dutch. Les hommes de Dutch encerclent l'épave. Fordham demande à John de ramener Nastas, blessé, jusqu'à Ross et à l'automobile pendant que le gang attaque.
John se fraye un chemin à travers l'épave en portant Nastas et l'installe dans la voiture. Ross, Fordham, Nastas et John repartent, mais l'automobile surchauffe aux abords de Blackwater. Tandis que Fordham tente de la redémarrer, John et Ross repoussent des poursuivants à cheval. Une fois le moteur relancé, ils poursuivent leur route vers Blackwater. Ross et Fordham emmènent Nastas au bureau de Harold MacDougal et demandent à John d'aider le professeur dans ses travaux sur le problème indien.

Anecdotes
- ◆The name of the mission is a Biblical reference to Galatians 6:2 "Bear one another's burdens, and thus fulfill the law of Christ".
- ◆The accountant in the beginning scene is seen on the ferry in Exodus in America.
- ◆After West Dickens is released, Ross tells Marston "Moral degeneracy waits for no man." This is also what Dickens says to Marston during one of his missions.
- ◆This mission marks the last time Nigel West Dickens is seen in the game.
- ◆Fordham is able to start the automobile from the driver's seat via the ignition, which was rare for vehicles at the time.
- ◆Ross' betrayal of John is foreshadowed when giving John the High Power Pistol, he turns around and thrusts the barrel into John's chest.
- ◆While in the automobile, John complains to Ross by saying "First it was Bill, now it's Dutch. After Dutch, it'll be somebody else. Where does it end?" this line of dialogue marks the only instance in Red Dead Redemption that other members of the Van der Linde gang are mentioned outside of the four seen in this game. The four being John Marston, Bill Williamson, Javier Escuella and Dutch van der Linde. Red Dead Redemption 2 would later confirm that other members survived the gang's downfall and are likely still alive when the events of Red Dead Redemption take place.
- ◆Ross' betrayal of John is once again foreshadowed, this time during the automobile ride, when the previously shown dialogue showing John's concern about someone else being killed after Dutch is brought up, something that ends up happening in "The Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed" where not one, but two former members of the gang are killed, those members being Uncle and John himself.
