John Marston meets Edgar Ross and Archer Fordham in Blackwater, expecting the Bureau to release his family now that Bill Williamson and Javier Escuella are dealt with. Ross instead orders him to find Dutch van der Linde, making clear that Abigail and Jack remain under government control until Dutch is dead. The agents have traced Dutch's people to the Wreck of the Serendipity. Ross gives John a High Power Pistol, and the three men leave Blackwater by automobile.
At the wreck, Fordham notes the unusual silence and joins John in searching the deserted docks. Shouts lead John aboard the ship, where he finds a bound, battered captive with a sack over his head. Fordham identifies him as Nastas, the informant who supplied Dutch's supposed location. Dutch's men close in around the wreck. Fordham tells John to carry the injured Nastas back to Ross and the automobile while the gang attacks.
John fights his way through the wreck with Nastas in his arms and places him in the car. Ross, Fordham, Nastas and John set off, but the automobile overheats outside Blackwater. While Fordham works to restart it, John and Ross hold back mounted pursuers. Once the engine runs again, they drive on to Blackwater. Ross and Fordham take Nastas to Harold MacDougal's office and direct John to assist the professor with his work on the native problem.

Trivia
- ◆The name of the mission is a Biblical reference to Galatians 6:2 "Bear one another's burdens, and thus fulfill the law of Christ".
- ◆The accountant in the beginning scene is seen on the ferry in Exodus in America.
- ◆After West Dickens is released, Ross tells Marston "Moral degeneracy waits for no man." This is also what Dickens says to Marston during one of his missions.
- ◆This mission marks the last time Nigel West Dickens is seen in the game.
- ◆Fordham is able to start the automobile from the driver's seat via the ignition, which was rare for vehicles at the time.
- ◆Ross' betrayal of John is foreshadowed when giving John the High Power Pistol, he turns around and thrusts the barrel into John's chest.
- ◆While in the automobile, John complains to Ross by saying "First it was Bill, now it's Dutch. After Dutch, it'll be somebody else. Where does it end?" this line of dialogue marks the only instance in Red Dead Redemption that other members of the Van der Linde gang are mentioned outside of the four seen in this game. The four being John Marston, Bill Williamson, Javier Escuella and Dutch van der Linde. Red Dead Redemption 2 would later confirm that other members survived the gang's downfall and are likely still alive when the events of Red Dead Redemption take place.
- ◆Ross' betrayal of John is once again foreshadowed, this time during the automobile ride, when the previously shown dialogue showing John's concern about someone else being killed after Dutch is brought up, something that ends up happening in "The Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed" where not one, but two former members of the gang are killed, those members being Uncle and John himself.
