La famille Braithwaite est une ancienne dynastie de Lemoyne dirigée par Catherine Braithwaite depuis Braithwaite Manor, dans Scarlett Meadows. Venus d'Angleterre et installés en Amérique vers 1779, les membres de la famille ont bâti leur fortune sur une plantation. Après l'abolition de l'esclavage, leur fortune décline et les Braithwaite se tournent vers le trafic clandestin de moonshine. Ils contrôlent une grande partie du commerce à Lemoyne, avec Danny-Lee Caton à la supervision de la production, et entretiennent des liens avec les Lemoyne Raiders et Angelo Bronte. Le foyer de Catherine comprend Bartholomew, Gareth, Gerald, Gertrude et sa nièce Penelope.
En 1898, Maggie Fike revient dans le commerce du moonshine et s'attaque aux Braithwaite par l'intermédiaire de son nouveau partenaire. Après la perturbation de leur activité, Bartholomew, Danny-Lee et des hommes armés confrontent Maggie dans sa cabane, mais ne parviennent pas à l'intimider. Maggie attire ensuite Bartholomew et Danny-Lee vers une prétendue livraison de moonshine et prévient l'agent du fisc Reid Hixon. Les hommes de Hixon les capturent, mais Bartholomew soudoie Hixon et affirme avoir des hommes armés à proximité. Il repart libre tandis que Danny-Lee est emmené.
Arthur Morgan rencontre la famille pour la première fois en 1899, lorsque Beau Gray l'envoie à Braithwaite Manor avec une lettre destinée à Penelope. Arthur aide plus tard Penelope à assister à un rassemblement pour le droit de vote des femmes, malgré les craintes de Beau. Hosea Matthews et Arthur apportent également du moonshine volé à Catherine, qui les paie pour le distribuer dans le saloon appartenant aux Gray à Rhodes. Catherine engage ensuite Arthur et Sean MacGuire pour détruire les champs de tabac des Gray à Caliga Hall, tandis que le gang Van der Linde trompe les deux familles rivales.
Lorsque le gang vole les chevaux des Braithwaite pour les Gray, la famille riposte en enlevant Jack Marston. Dutch van der Linde mène le gang à Braithwaite Manor, où ils tuent les proches et les hommes de main qui défendent les lieux, dont Gareth et Gerald. Catherine révèle que Jack a été vendu à Angelo Bronte à Saint Denis, puis se précipite dans le manoir tandis qu'il brûle. Penelope survit à la destruction. Elle part ensuite avec Beau pour Boston après qu'Arthur a protégé leur fuite face à ses proches, et ils quittent Riggs Station en diligence.

- ◆In Undead Nightmare, during the mission "Curious Tales from Blackwater", Mordecai Robbard's niece mentions a Mister Braithwaite, who had been dead a year as of 1911, but it is unknown if he was related to the wider Braithwaite family.
- ◆In the post-Civil War era, longstanding personal disputes were often exacerbated by newfound political divisions arising from Reconstruction policies, through which the federal government tried to rebuild the devastated South and install local politicians that were friendly to Northern demands. Many wealthy families (represented by the Braithwaites) tried to re-consolidate their power along traditional Southern lines, while others (represented by the Grays) sought new opportunities in aligning with Northern Reconstruction governments. Hence, the Braithwaites ally with the Lemoyne Raiders, while the Grays operate the local law enforcement.
- ◆Geographically, politically, and socioeconomically, the Braithwaite-Gray feud shares many similarities to the real-world Jones-Liddell feud among wealthy plantation dynasties of postwar Louisiana. The Liddells opposed the local Reconstruction government, while the Jones family supported it.
- ◆Beau and Penelope are not the first lovers from the opposing families. Douglas Gray and Lucille Braithwaite had a similar relationship, which ultimately caused the feud to happen.
- ◆It appears that the Braithwaite family's financial situation in 1899 is unstable and as they appear to owe debts to Angelo Bronte.
- ◆This is also hinted by the state of their plantation, as many of the cornfields seem to be unmaintained.
- ◆After "Blood Feuds, Ancient and Modern", you can still find Braithwaites around the manor even though it had been burnt to the ground. However by 1907 those were either killed in "The Course of True Love V" or have left and there are none left unlike the Gray family who still manage Caliga Hall.
