The Braithwaite family is an old Lemoyne dynasty led by Catherine Braithwaite from Braithwaite Manor in Scarlett Meadows. Having come from England and settled in America around 1779, the family built its wealth on a plantation. After slavery ends, its fortunes decline, and the Braithwaites move into illicit moonshine. They control much of the trade in Lemoyne with Danny-Lee Caton overseeing production, and maintain ties to the Lemoyne Raiders and Angelo Bronte. Catherine's household includes Bartholomew, Gareth, Gerald, Gertrude and her niece Penelope.
In 1898, Maggie Fike returns to the moonshine business and moves against the Braithwaites through her new partner. After their operation is disrupted, Bartholomew, Danny-Lee and armed men confront Maggie at her shack, but fail to intimidate her. Maggie later lures Bartholomew and Danny-Lee to a supposed moonshine delivery and alerts revenue agent Reid Hixon. Hixon's men seize them, but Bartholomew bribes Hixon and claims to have gunmen nearby. He walks free while Danny-Lee is taken away.
Arthur Morgan first encounters the family in 1899 when Beau Gray sends him to Braithwaite Manor with a letter for Penelope. Arthur later helps Penelope attend a women's suffrage rally despite Beau's fears. Hosea Matthews and Arthur also bring stolen moonshine to Catherine, who pays them to distribute it at the Gray-owned saloon in Rhodes. Catherine then employs Arthur and Sean MacGuire to destroy the Gray tobacco fields at Caliga Hall, while the Van der Linde gang deceives both feuding families.
When the gang steals the Braithwaites' horses for the Grays, the family retaliates by taking Jack Marston. Dutch van der Linde leads the gang to Braithwaite Manor, where they kill the defending relatives and hired guns, including Gareth and Gerald. Catherine reveals that Jack has been sold to Angelo Bronte in Saint Denis, then runs into the manor as it burns. Penelope survives the destruction. She later leaves with Beau for Boston after Arthur protects their escape from her relatives, and they depart from Riggs Station by stagecoach.

- โIn Undead Nightmare, during the mission "Curious Tales from Blackwater", Mordecai Robbard's niece mentions a Mister Braithwaite, who had been dead a year as of 1911, but it is unknown if he was related to the wider Braithwaite family.
- โIn the post-Civil War era, longstanding personal disputes were often exacerbated by newfound political divisions arising from Reconstruction policies, through which the federal government tried to rebuild the devastated South and install local politicians that were friendly to Northern demands. Many wealthy families (represented by the Braithwaites) tried to re-consolidate their power along traditional Southern lines, while others (represented by the Grays) sought new opportunities in aligning with Northern Reconstruction governments. Hence, the Braithwaites ally with the Lemoyne Raiders, while the Grays operate the local law enforcement.
- โGeographically, politically, and socioeconomically, the Braithwaite-Gray feud shares many similarities to the real-world Jones-Liddell feud among wealthy plantation dynasties of postwar Louisiana. The Liddells opposed the local Reconstruction government, while the Jones family supported it.
