A Benedict Point, Irish dice a John Marston che i minatori di Gaptooth Breach hanno scoperto una Gatling Gun. L'arma serve per il previsto attacco a Fort Mercer, così John cavalca con Irish fino alla miniera. Durante il tragitto, Irish canta "Lily of the West". All'avvicinarsi, alcuni minatori a cavallo li affrontano e John li uccide prima di scendere lungo il sentiero verso l'ingresso.
John si fa strada combattendo tra i minatori all'esterno di Gaptooth Breach ed entra nei tunnel. Oltre l'ingresso, altri uomini armati presidiano i passaggi, usando casse ed esplosivi come riparo. John libera un percorso attraverso la miniera fino a raggiungere il carrello ferroviario che trasporta la Gatling Gun. Irish lo raggiunge lì e insieme mettono in movimento il carrello carico lungo i binari sotterranei.
Il carrello raggiunge un montacarichi, che Irish usa per portare John e la Gatling Gun in superficie. John spinge il carrello in avanti, difendendolo dai minatori che attaccano lungo i binari. Un uomo di nome Digby Haskins blocca il percorso finché John non fa detonare degli esplosivi vicino a lui. Dopo aver eliminato gli aggressori rimasti, John porta l'arma al carro di Irish in attesa. Irish la carica a bordo e allontana il carrello da Gaptooth Breach per consegnarla a Nigel West Dickens.

Curiosità
- ◆Irish can be heard singing a song titled "Lily of the West" while traveling to the mine. While the most well known version became popular in the United States by parlor singers and ballad-printers, this song originates from the west of Ireland; in the U.S. version, the woman's name is Mary, while her original Irish name is Flora.
- ◆The name of this mission, like many others, is a Biblical reference, in this case Job 5:7 (KJV): "Yet man is born unto trouble; as the sparks fly upwards."
- ◆If the player follows Irish after the end of the mission, they can see the box with the Gatling Gun in it has disappeared, Irish is driving an empty cart.
- ◆Irish may fall off the cliff and die when he tells the player to meet him at the bottom of the hill but the player will not fail the mission.
