Gertrude Braithwaite è la figlia di Catherine Braithwaite e un membro della famiglia Braithwaite a Scarlett Meadows, Lemoyne. È sfigurata e mentalmente instabile. Temendo il danno che la conoscenza della sua condizione potrebbe arrecare al nome della famiglia, i suoi parenti la tengono nella tenuta dei Braithwaite anziché ricoverarla in un sanatorio. La rinchiudono in una latrina vicino a Braithwaite Manor, dove l'isolamento e l'incuria la rendono sempre più instabile.
Durante il tentativo di Arthur Morgan di portare Penelope Braithwaite lontano dalla sua famiglia, può condurre Penelope alla latrina di Gertrude. Penelope identifica la donna all'interno come sua cugina e spiega perché i Braithwaite l'hanno nascosta lì. Dice che, una volta arrivata a Boston, cercherà di organizzare un aiuto per Gertrude. Arthur dubita che possa fare qualcosa. Gertrude nota Penelope all'esterno e la chiama "bitch" dall'interno della latrina.
