• ◆Before heading out to look for John, Javier says that "I know if the situation were reversed... he'd look for me." This could be seen as a foreshadowing of John's long hunt for Javier years later.
• ◆While riding out to look for John, Arthur bitterly comments how the latter possibly abandoned the gang, saying he “kept riding north and never looked back." At the end of the game, Arthur advises John to “keep riding and don’t look back" while trying to urge him to escape from Dutch and the deteriorating gang with Abigail and Jack.
• ◆Before heading out to look for John, Arthur, while conversing with Abigail, will mockingly call him "little John." Famously, Little John is one of the companions of Robin Hood, whose actions of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor inspired the Van der Linde gang's own operations, at least before they fully dedicated themselves to ensuring their own survival and enforcing Dutch’s worldview.

After the mission is completed, an avalanche covers much of the mountainside north of the ravine - making it impossible for the player to continue north either by horse or on foot; so the only way to access the mountains is through glitches.
• ◆Arthur and Javier briefly leave the map boundaries on their way to find John, entering what would presumably be the Northern Grizzlies, an area mentioned only in Arthur's journal.
• ◆The title is a reference to Shakespeare's 1623 play The Winter's Tale, which famously includes the stage direction "Exit, pursued by a bear" for the character Antigonus. The same reference is used for the mission "Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego" - in this case with the character actually being chased by a large bear.
• ◆Since John has been attacked by wolves, besides the scars he will have a ruined jacket and trousers. In the Epilogue, you can notice that he has repaired them.
• ◆It is possible to kill some of the wolves by trampling them with your horse. This will allow you to save shotgun ammo and will count towards no damage objective.
• ◆If the player insists on taking the revolver, Javier will make a comment about it.
• ◆If the player doesn't protect Javier and John from the wolves, a unique death scene will appear.
