Das Submersible ist ein Ein-Personen-U-Boot der Klasse Boats. Sein kompakter Rumpf verfügt über ein abgerundetes vorderes Sichtfenster, schützende Metallrohre, frontseitige Leuchten, Ballastpontons unter der Kabine sowie Tanks und Rohrleitungen an den Seiten. Ein Propeller am Heck wird von einem Elektromotor angetrieben, während vertikale Ruder ober- und unterhalb des Propellers seine Bewegung im Wasser steuern. Verbesserte Versionen besitzen limettengrüne Streifen und zusätzliche Seitenleuchten.

Das Submersible ist für Fahrten unter Wasser statt für Geschwindigkeit gebaut und kann auf etwa 150 Meter abtauchen, bevor Druckwarnungen einsetzen. In größeren Tiefen nimmt sein Rumpf Schaden, und eine längere Fahrt unterhalb von rund 168 Metern endet damit, dass das Fahrzeug implodiert. Es kann etwa 24 Spielstunden lang unter Wasser bleiben, bevor sein Sauerstoff aufgebraucht ist. Wenn es unbemannt zurückgelassen wird, treibt es mit dem Meer. Beim Verlassen wird sein Insasse zudem mit einem Scuba Suit ausgestattet.

In Grand Theft Auto V erscheint ein Submersible nach dem Kauf am Sonar Collections Dock, wo es zum Einsammeln von Fässern mit Atommüll verwendet wird. Trevor stiehlt in Minisub eines von einem Schiff und nutzt es anschließend bei beiden Versionen von The Merryweather Heist, um das Wasser abzusuchen. Nach dem Offshore-Ansatz spawnt ein weiteres am Wasserturm des Sandy Shores Airfield. In Grand Theft Auto Online kann es am Sonar Collections Dock, nahe Humane Labs and Research, an der Marina oder am Los Santos Naval Port auf Elysian Island erscheinen.

◆Exiting the Submersible while it is submerged will cause the vessel to rise to the surface, requiring the player to swim up to it to re-board (changed by patch from previous behavior, where exiting the sub underwater made it unusable).
◆In the original versions of the game, the Submersible lacks a radio.
◆Cinematic view cannot be used while in a Submersible.
◆At the top of the tail and on the sides (near the front) of the Submersible, "4R53" is written as some form of identification number. This can be Leet translated to "ARSE". The same is seen on the Kraken.
◆Although there is no interior dials listed in the files, the gauges are just variations of dials found in basic aircraft. The same applies to the Kraken.
◆The Submersible the player acquires in The Merryweather Heist is much more durable than normal and is able to go to the lowest point allowed in the ocean, around 0.15 miles.
◆If the player has the invincibility cheat activated when reaching the "crush depth", it will be deactivated. Attempts to activate the cheat again when this happens will be met with a message stating that they cannot enter the cheat at this time.
