Landon Ricketts

Landon Ricketts is an aging American gunslinger who has settled in Chuparosa, Nuevo Paraíso, after a life of gunfights. Tales of his exploits, including the Blackwater Massacre, are already familiar to John Marston. In town, Ricketts acts as an informal protector. He sees John kill three men attempting to rob him, gives him a Schofield Revolver, and teaches him more advanced Dead Eye shooting before taking him after bandits who have stolen a bank wagon and seized a hostage.

John later finds Ricketts speaking with Emilio Fortuna about Javier Escuella. When Emilio's sister Luisa is held in the government jail at El Matadero, Ricketts joins John in the rescue. Carlos creates a distraction while they enter the jail, fight through the soldiers, and reach Luisa's cell. Ricketts uses dynamite on the lock, carries the badly hurt Luisa out, and rides with John through pursuing troops until Carlos can take her for treatment.

At the Chuparosa bar, Ricketts invites John into a poker game with Andreas Müller, Manolo Santander, and Sanchez. Müller accuses John of cheating and challenges him to a duel outside. Ricketts offers John advice before Müller is killed. Sanchez then takes a woman hostage and demands another duel. John kills Sanchez without hitting her, and he and Ricketts fight off Sanchez's arriving companions before going their separate ways.

Ricketts has no further news of Javier when John next visits him, but he listens as John speaks about his old gang. Luisa arrives with word that Colonel Allende is sending prisoners to their deaths without trial. Ricketts and John ambush the wagon convoy, take control of two wagons, and drive the captives to the American border while fighting Mexican soldiers. They free the prisoners there, then John and Ricketts say goodbye. Ricketts later returns to the United States and dies peacefully in his sleep in 1914.
