Player notes

John Marston meets Landon Ricketts over a drink in Chuparosa and presses him for information about Javier Escuella. Ricketts has none, but asks why John is so determined to find him. John recounts why he left his old gang. Luisa Fortuna then bursts into the saloon with news that Colonel Allende has condemned innocent writers and government officials to death without a trial.

John and Ricketts leave Chuparosa for Escalera to intercept the prison convoy. When the wagons appear on the road, they attack the soldiers escorting them. John clears the guards and drivers without destroying the wagons, then takes control of the lead vehicle. With Ricketts alongside him, he turns the convoy toward the border and carries the prisoners north.

Mexican soldiers block the bridge into New Austin and attack the convoy with gunfire, fire bottles and a Gatling gun. John forces a way through the ambush, using the explosives on the bridge against the attackers as the wagons cross into Ramita de la Baya. On the American side, the prisoners are freed. Ricketts takes charge of their journey and parts from John.

Trivia

  • โ—†Landon Ricketts may have never come back from America to Mexico once he escorted the prisoners to the U.S.A. at the end of the mission, since in the newspaper article (published in 1914) about Landon's death, it says that he spent the last three years of his life in the U.S.A., making the year he left Mexico 1911, which is also the year in which he escorts the prisoners into the U.S.A.
  • โ—†This title is kind of a play on Mexican Train, which is a game played with number dominoes.
  • โ—†There is a dialogue continuity conflict in this mission. There is a bit where Ricketts admonishes Marston for "jumping fences" and helping both the rebels and Allende. However, this mission can be completed without having done any of the missions given by Vincente de Santa, Luisa Fortuna, or Abraham Reyes.
  • โ—†At the end of this mission, John and Ricketts part ways, so Ricketts never actually helped John in finding Williamson or Escuella.
  • โ—†Rob Wiethoff, the voice actor for John Marston, has said that this is his favorite mission in the game.
  • โ—†The prisoners rescued by Marston are Harris Carruthers, Eudoro de la Barra, Fermin Ichinaga and Porfirio Gutierrez. Even if the player drives the wagon with Ichinaga and Ontiveros, they will still get the cutscene with Carruthers and De la Barra.
  • โ—†None of the prisoners seem to be the "prominent writer, Castilla" or the "local official" who Luisa identified. However, this is likely just a developer oversight.
  • โ—†Unluckily for Ichinaga, this is actually the second time that John and Marston have to rescue him, the first being in the mission The Gunslinger's Tragedy.
  • โ—†At the start of the mission, after the cutscene in which Luisa appears, she can be seen walking into Chuparosa church, where she prays beside the altar.
