Player notes
John Marston arrives at Agave Viejo and presses Abraham Reyes about the plan to seize Javier Escuella. Reyes says Escuella is at El Presidio, and that an assault on the Mexican Army fort can place it in rebel hands as well. John joins Reyes in a wagon loaded with TNT. Near the fort, Reyes lights the fuse and sends the horses forward. John leaps clear as the wagon crashes through El Presidio's gates and opens the way for the rebels.
John fights through the Mexican soldiers entering the fort and searches its buildings for Escuella. He finds him upstairs in the barracks. Escuella offers to lead John to Bill Williamson and Dutch van der Linde if John lets him live, but then shoves a crate at him and escapes through a window. John pursues him beyond El Presidio, catches up with him, and either takes him alive or kills him.
Mexican Army reinforcements approach El Presidio after Escuella is dealt with. John takes control of a cannon and destroys the incoming patrols and supply carts before they can retake the fort. He then collects Escuella and carries him to the shore, where Reyes greets the capture with a joke about old friends meeting again.
On an island north of Ramita de la Baya, John meets Edgar Ross and Archer Fordham. He hands Escuella over to the agents, or presents his body if he has killed him. Ross and Fordham tell John that Bill Williamson is his next target, then order him to travel to Blackwater, where they believe Dutch van der Linde can be found.

Trivia
- โIf the player is replaying the mission, Reyes will always say that John didn't kill De Santa during the previous mission.
- โIn this mission, John obtains the Bolt Action Rifle if he hasn't bought it before.
- โThere has been a glitch reported when John Marston lassoes Escuella, just before he hogties him on the road leading out of El Presidio. This has also occurred when you use Dead Eye to shoot Escuella's horse from underneath him. The glitch is strange, as even though Escuella is on the ground lassoed, both Escuella and John Marston continue talking as before when the chase for Escuella was on.
- โWhen the army sends reinforcements, even if the player does nothing, the other rebels are entrenched well enough to handle the few soldiers attacking El Presidio, thus making it near impossible to not obtain victory at this point in the mission.
- โThis is the only mission in which John cries (if the player kills Escuella).
- โOnce the player completes this mission and has not started the next mission, there is a glitch in Casa Madrugada. Wild animals will spawn very often and will not attack the player.
- โEdgar Ross and Archer Fordham manage to get through New Austin despite the bridge from West Elizabeth to New Austin being unusable at the time of the mission.
- โIn the Game of the Year Edition, the woman Reyes is having sex with will have her breasts covered up by her clothes, unlike in the original version where they are visible. This censorship was reverted in later versions of the game.
