Player notes
John Marston meets Abraham Reyes at Agave Viejo, where Reyes asks him to help seize a Mexican Army supply train. They ride through the rain to Chuparosa. Reyes explains that the rear section must be uncoupled before the train departs, leaving the engine and its armoured car for them to take. He creates a diversion while John slips onto the train platform without raising the alarm.
John silently removes the guards along the train, reaches the coupling and detaches the rear cars. As they roll away, he deals with the soldiers guarding the remaining train, including the gunner on its Gatling gun. John clears the cars ahead, releases the engine brake and takes control of the locomotive. Reyes catches up as the train carries them away from Chuparosa.
With the train moving, John collects explosives and climbs onto the armoured car. He plants a charge on its hatch, withdraws, then enters after the blast tears the hatch open. Inside, he cracks the safe and takes its contents. John returns outside to Reyes, who says he will soon obtain the information John needs, then leaves him beside the train outside Casa Madrugada.

Trivia
- โThe name of this mission is inspired by the 1903 silent film The Great Train Robbery.
- โThe plot of robbing a train loaded with ammunition is perhaps an allusion to Sam Peckinpah's film The Wild Bunch, which Rockstar noted as one of the films that inspired the game. In the film, however, the characters rob a train for a character not very unlike Colonel Allende.
- โThis is the only time that a train is seen pulling more than five cars.
- โIt always rains during this mission, possibly because the darkness of the clouds can allow John to approach more surreptitiously, and that the thunderstorm can help hide unnecessary noises.
- โThis is the only Reyes mission which does not involve killing an antagonist. It is also the only Reyes mission that doesn't reward the player an Achievement/Trophy.
- โThis is one of the few missions to require the player to neutralize an enemy without alerting anyone to their presence, another being At Home With Dutch.
- โIf the player shoots while inside the armored wagon Reyes will make a comment about it like "Are you shooting imaginary soldiers?".
- โAfter the train is uncoupled at Chuparosa, it rolls westwards, down the hill. The uncoupled train never actually stops, and continues to gain speed indefinitely. Using mods, it's possible to watch the unmanned train cross into the USA, making a loop around Gaptooth Breach and Tumbleweed, passing through Benedict Point, then re-entering Mexico. It will even pass its point of origin in Chuparosa, clipping through the stationary train, and zooming off through Mexico, back into the USA. By the time it has passed MacFarlane's Ranch and entered the tunnel in the Redemption Mountains, it is too fast to keep up with.
