Player notes

Lenny Summers calls Arthur Morgan over at Clemens Point with a lead on Shady Belle, a manor in the swamps occupied by the Lemoyne Raiders. He says the former Confederates are gathering weapons to support their cause. Arthur agrees to investigate, and they ride south. On the way, Lenny speaks of the racism and violence faced by Black people in Lemoyne. Arthur tells him that Dutch and the rest of the gang recognise the work he does.

At Bolger Glade, they spot a wagon carrying dynamite and follow it through the trees toward Shady Belle. Arthur and Lenny hide their horses in the woods and wait for the wagon to pass. Arthur studies the manor through his rifle scope, noting the guards, explosives and possible approaches. He tells Lenny whether to approach the Raiders peacefully as a distraction or prepares to set off the dynamite from cover.

The plan erupts into a gunfight with the Lemoyne Raiders. Arthur and Lenny clear the grounds, then search Shady Belle for the weapons Lenny was promised. They find a wagon loaded with firearms and take it for the gang. Three Raiders intercept them on the road out of Bayou Nwa, but Arthur and Lenny kill them before continuing with the stolen wagon.

Back at Clemens Point, Arthur takes a Bolt Action Rifle from the haul. He commends Lenny's ability and tells him that the older members of the gang have noticed his efforts. Lenny thanks Arthur, and Arthur thanks him in return as the weapons wagon is brought into camp.

Trivia

  • โ—†The mission's title is a Biblical reference to Luke 3:3, which says that St. John the Baptist "went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins" (NIV).
  • โ—†If the player acts quickly after the mission is completed they can ride Lenny's horse Maggie. This is one of the few times a gang's horse can be ridden in game although she will buck the player and run back if they try and leave camp.
  • โ—†During this mission, Arthur and Lenny will encounter the Abandoned Church for the former to mark as a Point of Interest. If Arthur does inspect it and write it in his journal, then its entry will become available after the mission.
  • โ—†After completing this mission, the Lemoyne Raiders in Shady Belle will stop respawning. Players will not be able to clear for loot again until after completing "Fleeting Joy".
  • โ—†After leaving Shady Belle, if the player decides to go off track to avoid encountering the last group of Lemoyne Raiders, Lenny will comment on how he feels he and Arthur "should have met someone by now", hinting at the last Lemoyne Raiders they were supposed to face on the road.
  • โ—†Even though Arthur doesn't know of Shady Belle until this mission, it is possible for the player to visit Shady Belle when it's a Gang Hideout starting at Chapter 2 and at the beginning of Chapter 3 up until the player initiates this mission. Doing so will have Arthur tell Lenny about being there before when they arrive at Shady Belle.
  • โ—†This is the only mission where Arthur calls Lenny by his full name, Leonard (occurs after killing the three Lemoyne Raiders after stealing the wagon).
