Player notes
Arthur meets Dutch van der Linde and Lenny Summers in an alley opposite the Saint Denis trolley station. Dutch says a ship's captain can take the gang to Australia or Tahiti once they have enough money to begin again. Arthur doubts they can afford passage and a new life, but Dutch points to Angelo Bronte's information about cash at the station. With the Pinkertons closing in, Dutch insists that they need the money now.
The three men cover their faces and enter the station to announce a robbery. Arthur takes money from the people inside while Lenny searches elsewhere, then pressures the clerk into opening the safe. The haul is miserably small. Armed Saint Denis lawmen surround the building before they can leave, and Dutch concludes that Bronte has sent them into a trap. A moving trolley passes outside, giving them their escape.
Arthur, Dutch and Lenny leap aboard the trolley and fire on the lawmen pursuing them through Saint Denis. Dutch has Arthur try to slow the vehicle, but its brakes fail. The trolley collides with a wagon and crashes into a fence, leaving the men shaken but alive. They fight through the streets on foot, following Lenny while more lawmen close in around them.
They find a wagon, with Lenny taking the reins while Arthur and Dutch hold off the pursuit. The wagon races out of Saint Denis, where a blockade bars the bridge ahead. Lenny throws dynamite and Arthur detonates it, clearing their way into Bayou Nwa. Dutch fumes over Bronte's betrayal and decides that the Saint Denis Bank must pay for their escape, before Lenny takes him back to camp.
Trivia
- โThis mission reuses several aspects from the bus chase level from Chapter 10 of Rockstar Games' 2012 video game Max Payne 3, such as Arthur standing on the moving trolley's boarding step to shoot down pursuing enemy forces with a sidearm, and the trolley eventually crashing.
- โThis is the only job where the gang don't receive a share of the take. This is likely due to the minimal amount: $47.53.
- โThe head injury Dutch receives during this mission following the trolley crash may have been a concussion, which may have exacerbated his increasingly erratic behavior displayed in later chapters. Arthur asks him about his condition at several points during and after the mission and a few of the other members of the gang comment on it in camp encounters afterward as well.
- โIn the beginning cutscene when discussing the future of the gang being in Tahiti, Arthur asks who lives there, to which Dutch replies "Tahitians", but mispronounces the word as "tah-HEE-tee-ins" as opposed to the correct pronunciation "tah-HEE-shuns".
- โPlayers will unavoidably lose Honor and stack up an amount of bounty in this mission as they need to kill a large number of lawmen during the escape. Players do not need to rob the hostages at the bank though. If the player waits long enough, the warden will open the door regardless if Arthur robbed anyone or not. It is however required for the gold medal.
- โThis is the only mission where Arthur is required to kill Saint Denis lawmen.
- โAfter this mission, players will be able to remain in Dead Eye after firing if they do not have any targets tagged, though this is not much of an improvement as the player could simply have immediately re-entered Dead Eye after each shot before this mission.
- โIf either Dutch or Lenny have their hats shot off during the escape, they will always regain them after blowing away the blockade on the bridge before completing the mission.
- โIf followed after the mission, the wagon carrying Dutch and Lenny will disappear, and Lenny will be standing in the middle of the road, invulnerable to all harm, except fire bottles. When killed, his corpse will instantly disappear.
- โThis mission warrants a $165 bounty regardless of how many lawmen Arthur kills. Interestingly if the player hasn't yet completed Bandit Challenge Rank 5, completing this mission will complete it even though the bounty amassed isn't the required amount ($250).
- โIf the player kills any of the civilians in the mission, Lenny will react to it. Additionally, killing or knocking out the clerk will result in a scolding from Dutch.
- โWhile riding the wagon through Saint Denis, the trio will pass by Angelo Bronte's Mansion and two of his men will attempt to shoot at the player and company as they pass.
- โIf a lawman manages to jump onto the wagon, they will begin wrestling with Dutch. If the player does not save him, it will result in a mission failure.
