Player notes
Arthur Morgan finds Margaret beside a wrecked caravan west of Bluewater Marsh. The circus performer says that three of his exotic animals have escaped: a zebra, a tiger and a lion. He asks Arthur to recover them. Arthur first tracks the zebra to the country around Emerald Ranch, where he discovers that it is a mule covered in striped paint. He brings the animal back to Margaret.
Margaret sends Arthur to assist Sally Nash near Rhodes with the supposed tiger. Sally explains that she has sent out a dog disguised as a lion, but Arthur finds the dog dead. She admits that the tiger is actually a painted cougar. Arthur places the dog's body by the cougar's cage and waits behind a log. When the cougar enters, he shuts it inside, then takes the caged animal and Sally back to Margaret.
Margaret directs Arthur to search near Emerald Ranch for the final animal, the lion. At a barn, Arthur finds two frightened men holding its doors closed. The lion bursts out, kills one of them, and proves to be a real lion rather than another circus trick. Arthur pursues it to a nearby stable and kills it. He takes the lion's paw before leaving.
Arthur returns to Margaret and Sally west of Bluewater Marsh. He confronts Margaret for concealing the lion's true nature and for the death it caused at Emerald Ranch. As Margaret and Sally prepare to depart with their wagons, Margaret gives Arthur an emerald for returning the animals.
Trivia
- โThe player is able to follow Margaret and Sally after the last part of the mission after they leave with the wagons. Following them leads them through Rhodes, where they then turn around and go through Emerald Ranch. Margaret and Sally then pass Guthrie Farm, pass Emerald Station, and go back through Emerald Ranch. Margaret will also comment on the player following them.
- โThe fake "zebra" is a reference to the last unlockable mount in Red Dead Redemption: Multiplayer, the Zebra Donkey.
- โIf the protagonist rides the "zebra" while returning it, any passing NPCs on horses will laugh and taunt them about it.
- โIn the first Red Dead Redemption, multiple NPCs gossip about a cougar, tiger, or lion being held in a barn by the residents of Hennigan's Stead. This concept was later reused for these series of missions.
- โThe PED model of the lion has a scar on his right eye, which may be a subtle reference to Scar from The Lion King.
- โThe player taking the lion's paw as a trophy is a reference to a scene from the 2015 movie Victor Frankenstein, wherein Doctor Frankenstein murders the circus lion and then tries to steal its paw for scientific purposes.
- โWhen arriving to Sally's location for Part III, you can scare her off, e.g. by throwing a stick of dynamite nearby. If you chase her, you can make her go back to the wagon after a while. There will now be a new Sally there, so she can meet herself.
