About this weapon
The Gatling Gun is an early rapid-fire weapon and a predecessor of the modern machine gun. In Red Dead Redemption 2, it appears as a mounted weapon rather than a firearm carried by a character. Its ammunition type is not listed separately, and the gun remains fixed at the position where it is installed.
Only one Gatling Gun appears in the game. It is mounted at Fort Mercer, in New Austin. Since New Austin is accessible during the epilogue, the weapon is available only after the main story has concluded and the epilogue reaches that part of the map.
At Fort Mercer, the Gatling Gun provides the game's sole example of this early rapid-fire weapon. Its fixed mounting distinguishes it from the guns carried on foot, keeping its use tied to Fort Mercer rather than allowing it to be taken elsewhere in the world.

- โThe Gatling Gun in Red Dead Redemption is based on the original 1862 Gatling gun, as designed by its namesake, Dr. Richard Gatling, but it lacks the hopper/magazine that is a necessary component to feed ammunition to the real world gun; whereas Marston fires the game weapon by himself, the actual gun required a fulltime loader.
