About this weapon
The Peeters & Janssens Sawed-Off Shotgun is a shortened, concealable shotgun in Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online. It holds two rounds and uses Shotgun Ammo, including Regular Buckshot, Incendiary Buckshot, Slug and Explosive Slug loads. Its compact form permits one-handed use, and it can be carried alongside another Sawed-Off Shotgun for dual wielding.
Arthur gains access to the weapon during the early tutorial. After it has been acquired, any Gunsmith sells a second Sawed-Off Shotgun for $85. Another can be taken from the bartender at Keane's Saloon in Valentine after he attacks over a bottle of gin. In Red Dead Online, Gunsmiths sell it from rank 19, while it can also be ordered through the Handheld Catalog and collected from a horse, Post Office or Camp.
The Sawed-Off has the lowest accuracy and range among shotguns, but delivers shotgun power at very close distance. It is built for sudden fighting on foot or horseback, where its short reach is less of a drawback. A pair of them gives rapid, heavy fire against people or animals at close quarters.
Trivia
- โThis is notably the weapon of choice for Charles Smith. He has a custom model, featuring a white varnish and a black, steel barrel. Additionally, Charles is the only member of the gang to wield a shotgun as their primary weapon in place of a revolver.
- โSadie Adler is also seen owning one in the epilogue, though she is almost never seen using it.
- โUnlike other shotguns, this one occupies a holster/handgun slot, in contrast with the previous game's version.
- โJohn Marston uses this shotgun in a reference to the Red Dead Redemption cover image in the mission "Jim Milton Rides, Again?"
