À Ridgewood Farm, Nigel West Dickens demande à John Marston de participer à une course de chariots en son nom. Il défend le comportement inquiétant de Seth Briars en le comparant à des figures respectées de l'Égypte antique, mais John n'a guère de patience pour cet argument. Nigel a besoin d'argent et pense que John peut le gagner pour lui. John accepte, prend place à côté du vendeur et part avec lui en direction de Gaptooth Breach.
À Gaptooth Breach, Nigel engage son chariot contre plusieurs autres conducteurs. John prend les rênes lorsque la course commence, guidant le chariot le long du parcours balisé à travers le désert tout en restant devant les autres véhicules. La course les mène à travers le terrain accidenté autour de la mine, Nigel comptant sur John pour faire arriver son stratagème avant la concurrence.
John remporte la course et assure le gain de Nigel. Les autres coureurs derrière eux, il conduit le chariot de Nigel loin de Gaptooth Breach en direction de Benedict Point. Durant le trajet, Nigel continue de pousser John à l'aider dans ses diverses entreprises, tandis que John reste concentré sur la recherche des hommes liés à Bill Williamson. Ils arrivent à Benedict Point, Nigel ayant toujours besoin des services de John Marston.

Anecdotes
- ◆Interestingly, apart from the three racing missions given to you during the story ("Obstacles in Our Path"; "Liars, Cheats and Other Proud Americans"; "The Sport of Kings, and Liars"), the opportunity to race never presents itself again in single player. However, racing is available in the Grand Prix multiplayer game mode as part of the Liars and Cheats DLC.
- ◆Sometimes, there is a wagon with no one driving it. It will still race and count for one of the racers, there just won't be a driver.
- ◆At the start of the mission, Nigel West Dickens tries to justify Seth's behaviour mentioning that he would have been respected in Ancient Egypt: Seth was close to the name of the Egyptian god associated with disorder and deserts.
- ◆During the end ride of this mission, John will mention threats such as "Falling rocks" and "Homicidal maniacs" even though none of these appear, it is likely that these threats were intended to be in the mission but were scrapped or forgotten about.
- ◆If the player manages to hitch their horse at the hitching post next to the mission marker, the opening cutscene of the mission will be skipped entirely, likely due to a glitch.
- ◆While the loading screen for the mission appears as normal, the game will quickly resume with Marston getting off his horse to hitch it, though the loading screen will resume immediately afterwards. Once the loading screen finishes for the second time, the player is instructed to ride shotgun with West Dickens without the opening cutscene playing prior to this.
