Player notes

Franklin calls Michael and asks to meet somewhere quiet. Michael agrees to see him at the satellite dishes off Route 68 in the Grand Senora Desert. Before leaving, Franklin phones Trevor and tells him he intends to kill Michael, asking for help. Trevor refuses, furious that Franklin would betray Michael, and ends the call.

At the dishes after dark, Michael talks about how working with Franklin has brought his family closer and led him to the job he wanted. A call tells Michael that Tracey has been accepted into college. Franklin tries to speak around his decision, recalling what they have been through, but Michael understands what is happening. As Franklin fires at him, Michael escapes in his car. Franklin follows him along the railway tracks to Palmer-Taylor Power Station, then chases him on foot through the plant and up its scaffolding while they exchange gunfire.

On a chimney walkway, Michael confronts Franklin over his betrayal and says he regarded him as a son. They fight, with Franklin answering that he was only ever Michael's "bitch." Franklin shoves Michael over the railing, then catches his hand. He can let Michael fall or try to pull him up, but Michael falls to his death either way. Franklin calls Lamar and reaches voicemail, leaving a regretful message before walking away from Palmer-Taylor Power Station as the credits roll.

Trivia

  • ◆The name of the mission comes from what Franklin says to Michael as he holds him up over the edge of the tower: "Eh, you told me when the time came, I'd know. I'm sorry!"
  • ◆Just like ending A, if Franklin proceeds to call Lester instead of Trevor, the ending will change to the Deathwish ending/ending C, cancelling Franklin's action of calling Trevor.
  • ◆Regardless of what ringtone option the player has chosen for Michael's phone, it will always be the second option that plays in the beginning cutscene.
  • ◆The Tailgater cannot be overtaken or else it will dramatically speed up.
  • ◆While Michael is invulnerable to bullets hitting him, he can still damage Franklin.
  • ◆This is the second instance in the storyline where Michael is noticeably trying to hold back tears. When Michael says he treated Franklin like family, his voice cracks whilst saying "and now you're gonna cap..." due to emotion.
  • ◆Michael's line "I taught you everything you know", and Franklin's response, "Not everything", is similar to the conversation between Dwayne Forge and Playboy X in Deconstruction for Beginners in GTA IV, in which Playboy tells Niko that "He taught me everything I know", and Dwayne responds "Not everything".
  • ◆Franklin's quote to Lamar at the end of this mission is the same as Michael's quote at the end of the mission Fresh Meat when he was explaining to Franklin about why he betrayed his crew ("You wake up one day, and your legs... They just give, and you just can't run anymore").
  • ◆The Chinese translation for the gold medal objective, "Surpassed the Mentor", is "青出於藍", which roughly means "Green Comes from Blue". This references Franklin and Michael's theme colors and the fact that Franklin kills Michael in this mission.
  • ◆After this mission is completed, some Bleeter posts will mention Steve Haines' death and Merryweather Security closing its operation in the USA. Both of these events refer to The Third Way ending, and are probably an oversight.
  • ◆The song "Sleepwalking" by The Chain Gang of 1974 plays during the credits for this ending and can also be heard on Radio Mirror Park.
  • ◆Information discovered in the GTA 5 source code leak alleged that in the beta stages of the game, Michael was to be dropped into a police helicopter’s blades instead of plummeting to his death. The circumstances that would’ve led up to this are unknown.
