About this vehicle

The Jobuilt Phantom is a two-seat Commercial tractor trailer truck with the form of a classic American longnose cab. Its design draws on several real-world heavy trucks, combining a long hood, raised cab, sleeper compartment, external air cleaners and vertical exhaust stacks. Chrome trim surrounds its grille and dual round headlights, while the rear is a bare tractor chassis built to take a trailer.

In Grand Theft Auto V, the Phantom can tow trailers. It carries a CB radio, and trucker chatter can sometimes be heard while Trevor drives it in Blaine County, even if the main radio is off. The cab, sleeper and rear mudguards can appear in different single-colour finishes, and the truck uses the industrial wheels shared with vehicles including the Mule, Benson and Towtruck.

The Phantom remains quick enough for long-distance travel and is exceptionally durable for its class. Its great weight lets it shove traffic aside and makes it difficult to damage, but steering is slow and it tends to push wide in corners. It is top-heavy and loses speed on slopes, making it poorly suited to off-road travel.

Trivia

◆The name "Phantom" may be a reference to "Phantom 309", a truck driving song released originally by Red Sovine in 1967.
◆As a "phantom" is an invisible entity, the word being applied as a name for a large, conspicuous vehicle such as a tractor-trailer may also be considered an example of Rockstar's humour.
◆The Phantom and the Packer in GTA IV both claim to have a V24 Supercharged engine, however, they are too small to fit a V24 engine; the correct configuration are either a straight-6 or V8, which are common in many industrial trucks. It is possible that the V24 nomenclature was meant to reference a 24-valve Straight-6 engine type, despite the fact that references to valve configurations on several other vehicles appears to be in the more accurate "24V" style nomenclature. It is possibly an oversight.
◆This also applies to several MTL and Jobuilt vehicles in both GTA V and GTA Online, where the same badge appears on them.
◆In Grand Theft Auto IV, the Phantom is always unlocked, meaning that the player's character doesn't have to break the window when stealing it.
