The Legendary Tatanka Bison is a legendary bison in Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online. It is based on the bison, a large herbivore that feeds on grains, hay and corn. In the story, its short black coat is set off by thick light gray hair around the hump and head. The Online animal has white colouring over its head and back, distinguishing it from common black bison.
In Red Dead Redemption 2, it lives in Hennigan's Stead, New Austin. In Red Dead Online, it grazes near Heartland Overflow in The Heartlands, New Hanover. It is larger and tougher than ordinary animals, taking more shots to kill or sedate and often running after it has been wounded. When provoked in Online, it can charge.
Hunting the Legendary Tatanka Bison yields a Legendary Tatanka Bison Horn, a Legendary Tatanka Bison Pelt and a Prime Beef Joint. The horn is used at a Fence to make the Tatanka Bison Horn Trinket. Its pelt is used for the Legendary Boar & Bison Fowlers, Legendary Bison Batwing Chaps and Legendary Bison Vest, which belong to The Dreamcatcher outfit. In Online, Gus Macmillan can turn the pelt into garments.

- โAs the Legendary Tatanka Bison habitat is in the eastern regions of New Austin, it can only be hunted after the epilogue. However, there may be exploits throught which the player can hunt it earlier.
- โTatanka is the word for a bison or alternatively a bull in the Lakota language.
- โThis the only legendary animal that appears in both Online and Story mode. However, its appearance varies slightly between the two, having more white fur on its head and hump in Online.
- โIn Story mode, this bison is female, whereas the Legendary White Bison is male.
