Player notes
The Rooster is a domesticated chicken, Gallus gallus domesticus. Red Dead Redemption 2 includes the Dominique rooster, Java rooster and Leghorn rooster. These birds are omnivores that search the ground for insects and vegetation. Each variety lives around ranches in the game's settled regions, where roosters wander among the farm animals rather than appearing as a separate wild species.
Roosters occur in Guarma and at select ranches across Lemoyne, New Hanover, West Elizabeth and New Austin. They can be encountered in Bayou Nwa, Shady Belle, Great Plains, Broken Tree, Hennigan's Stead, MacFarlane's Ranch, Scarlett Meadows, Braithwaite Manor, the Heartlands, Granger's Hoggery and Emerald Ranch. Dominique, Java and Leghorn roosters all share this ranch-based distribution.
A rooster yields a Rooster Feather, Plump Bird Meat and a Rooster Carcass. Its feathers are used in crafting, while the meat provides food. A Bow with Small Game Arrows is regarded as the appropriate hunting weapon for roosters, since it limits damage to the meat. The birds function as small farm game animals, providing materials and food when killed.
