Dutch van der Linde

Before they can rob the Saint Denis bank, Dutch convinces Arthur that they must kill Angelo Bronte. They visit Thomas, a local fisherman, to procure a skiff for the assault on Bronte's mansion.

At Shady Belle, Arthur finds Dutch and Hosea arguing over Angelo Bronte. Hosea opposes Dutch's plan to kill Bronte, calling revenge foolish, but Dutch insists Bronte must die before the gang can rob the Saint Denis bank. Arthur backs Dutch. Hosea warns Dutch that his course will damn them all, then Dutch asks Arthur to ride with him to Lagras and arrange a boat for an approach to Bronte's mansion.

On the road through Bayou Nwa, Arthur questions whether Dutch wants Bronte dead for the bank job or for revenge after the trolley station affair. Dutch refuses to separate the two and demands more faith from Arthur, complaining that Micah is the only man who still trusts him. Arthur reminds Dutch that he has followed him for twenty years and is still at his side. In Lagras, Thomas agrees to provide a skiff, but first takes them out to inspect his crawfish traps and find his partner, Jules.

Thomas sends Arthur and Dutch to search for Jules, whom Arthur finds stranded in a tree above the swamp. Jules claims a monster has driven him there. Arthur frees the skiff from a fallen limb, and the men set off, only for the boat to become stuck. Jules enters the water to pull it loose, and a Bullgator drags him under. Arthur rescues him and returns him to the skiff as Dutch fires at the animal. Arthur bandages Jules' wounded leg while they row back to Lagras, where local men carry Jules away. Dutch leaves to gather the gang, telling Arthur to meet them at the village.

Trivia

  • โ—†As shown in pre-release screenshots, Bill was originally intended to appear in the mission rather than Dutch.
  • โ—†During the opening cutscene, when Arthur agrees to go with Dutch's plan of going after Bronte, Hosea warns Dutch by saying, "You'll damn us all..." a line Arthur later remembers during his final ride to camp in the "Red Dead Redemption" mission if his Honor is low. This line also foreshadows the Van der Linde gang's eventual demise.
  • โ—†If Arthur has low honor and goes back for the money in "Red Dead Redemption," he says something similar when trying to convince Dutch that Micah had betrayed them to the Pinkertons and reminding Dutch of his failure to stop Micah from ruining the gang.
  • โ—†If Arthur takes too long to initiate the mission after returning to camp, Dutch will become agitated and scream at Arthur to get to the balcony.
  • โ—†If Arthur doesn't check the crayfish traps with Thomas, Dutch will apologize for it.
  • โ—†If the player does not shoot the Bullgator enough times or not at all, it will grab Dutch in its jaws and drag him into the water, failing the mission.
  • โ—†If the player doesn't quickly bandage Jules after the alligator attack, a unique cutscene plays where Jules bleeds out and dies in the boat.
