Player notes

Arthur Morgan speaks with Josiah Trelawny at Clemens Point. Trelawny has arranged a meeting in Rhodes with one of his "discouraged men", a postal clerk willing to sell information about valuable stagecoaches. Arthur rides with him into town and enters the post office, where Trelawny chats with Alden Carruthers. Arthur pays Alden for a tip concerning a coach expected to pass through Siltwater Strand. Alden also mentions another clerk in Strawberry who belongs to the same network.

Arthur and Trelawny ride across Scarlett Meadows towards Siltwater Strand. Arthur is uneasy at the prospect of going near Strawberry after the damage he caused there while freeing Micah Bell. Trelawny dismisses the concern, then remarks that the Van der Linde gang's recent exploits are making them famous. Arthur says he hopes the gang finds freedom before its notoriety catches up with it.

At the ambush point, Trelawny decides that the coach should be robbed without violence. He gives Arthur a Lock Breaker and tells him to keep his weapons away. When Chester Damsen's stagecoach arrives, Trelawny draws the singer and her driver into conversation, persuading her to perform for him. Arthur slips behind the coach, opens its strongbox and takes the money unseen. He returns to his horse, waits for the stagecoach to depart, then meets Trelawny at Siltwater Strand to divide the take.

Trivia

  • โ—†On the way to commit the robbery, Arthur makes comments in regard to the state of notoriety of the gang during the passing weeks, to which Trelawny replies, "All this trouble... you gentlemen are becoming quite the celebrities, aren't you? Soon you'll be on the front of a dime novel... and dead, of course." This would prove to be an educated assumption, since the Van der Linde gang would go on to become popular folk songs and pulp novels eight years later.
  • โ—†Before starting the mission, Trelawny can be seen doing a magic trick with a playing card if Arthur stands away from him and uses binoculars.
  • โ—†If the player hasn't already obtained one, Trelawny will give them a lock breaker for free.
  • โ—†The player has the option to kill Chester Damsen and the others on the stagecoach when Trelawny distracts her, which leads to him saying "God, these amateurs! Why do I bother?", mounting his horse and riding away. Afterwards, the player finds Trelawny at a crossroad, who expresses his disappointment in Arthur not following his directions.
  • โ—†If this is the last main mission to complete before "A Short Walk in a Pretty Town", Trelawny will give Arthur a message from Bill about meeting him in town to help the Grays with something before speaking with Alden.
  • โ—†When Trelawny and Arthur are sitting on their horses at the farm, waiting for the stage coach to arrive, the player can ride off about 10m to the left, off the road, turn around and ram Trelawny's horse (aim for the front), so both Arthur and Trelawny fall off. Trelawny will start walking towards the stage coach, while his horse stays put. Depending on timing, two different things can happen - either Trelawny catches up with the stage coach in time, or he doesn't. If he catches up with the stage coach, his horse is suddenly teleported to him, and his conversation with Chester Damsen starts, but at the same time her singing starts. If Trelawny doesn't catch up with the stage coach in time, he is teleported back to the starting position, where his horse is, but if the player keeps riding behind the stage coach they will hear the conversation between Trelawny and Chester Damsen, while the stage coach just continues on and on, heading back into Rhodes.
