Player notes

Eye in the Sky begins with Trevor arriving at Mission Row Police Station on Devin Weston's behalf. The desk sergeant sends him to the roof, where an LSPD pilot is waiting in a Police Maverick. If Franklin begins the job instead, he waits at the FIB lot in the Murrieta Oil Field as Trevor arrives overhead. The helicopter meets Franklin there, and Trevor learns that its camera can read the transmitters in San Andreas driver's licenses. Devin wants Chad Mulligan's Z-Type, so Franklin takes to the streets while Trevor operates the camera from the air.

From the Police Maverick, Trevor scans people in Hawick, listening to what he can hear below and checking their license data. The first group does not include Chad. In the next area, Trevor identifies Chad Mulligan and follows him as he leads Franklin toward the garage holding the Z-Type. Chad gets into the car and flees, with Franklin pursuing on the ground while Trevor keeps the camera trained on him. Chad finally disappears into a parking garage, forcing Trevor to switch the camera to thermal vision.

Trevor finds Franklin's heat signature, then spots Chad hiding in the Z-Type. Control passes to Franklin outside the garage. He confronts Chad, takes the Z-Type and drives it to Devin's hangar at Los Santos International Airport, where Devin and Molly Schultz are waiting beside a Shamal. Devin admires the rare car but postpones Franklin's payment until the remaining vehicles are collected, and urges him to consider his future apart from Michael and Trevor. Molly tells Franklin to take a Tailgater, and he leaves the airport grounds.

Trivia

  • โ—†The mission's name is a reference to a term used to describe CCTV (closed-circuit television).
  • โ—†It could also be a reference to the 1982 Alan Parsons Project song of the same name. One of their songs can also be heard on Los Santos Rock Radio, while another song of theirs is heard on Flash FM in GTA Vice City Stories.
  • โ—†This mission is a fan service for , bringing back three memorable elements of the game: the black Z-Type, the location compass and the top-down perspective.
  • โ—†During the mission, Trevor will frequently get angry at the helicopter's pilot (in particular when they test the scanner on Franklin and discover he was likely arrested because of racial profiling), promising to drop him off. If the player switches to Trevor immediately after the mission is complete, he will be piloting the Police Maverick with the original pilot being nowhere in sight; his comment of a "having a soft landing" implies that he kept his word. The act itself, while never seen in the game proper, is shown in Trevor's character trailer.
  • โ—†The Z-Type appears in the storyline only in this mission and in Pack Man. After this, the player can only see this car in single player again after buying one on the internet.
  • โ—†However, there is a way to obtain the car without having to purchase it. The player must drive the car to 3671 Whispymound Drive instead of driving it to Los Santos International after they have got it. They have to park the car in the garage, get out of it and let the garage door close with the Z-Type inside. Then, the player has to take the car out of the garage, exit it and abandon it, which will fail the mission. They must refuse to retry the mission and drive to the LSPD Auto Impound, where the Z-Type will be able to be retrieved for $250. A video showing the process can be seen .
  • โ—†Mulligan and the Z-Type are always located next to a special white Atomic Burrito.
  • โ—†The Z-Type has a standard license plate in this mission, but when it appears in Pack Man it has a vanity plate reading V1NTAG3. This variant, however, is unobtainable, as the Z-Type on the trailer is a static prop rather than a functional vehicle.
  • โ—†During the first part of the chase, Trevor states that Chad is going through Dutch Drive and an alleyway towards El Rancho Boulevard, although Chad is actually going through Alta Street and an alleyway towards Las Lagunas Boulevard, respectively.
  • โ—†"Dutch Drive" here may refer to Dutch London Street, implying the chase was likely to be originally set in southern Los Santos rather than in northern Los Santos.
  • โ—†The parking garage featured in this mission is the same one from which Franklin assassinates Brett Lowrey during The Hotel Assassination.
  • โ—†During the parking garage segment, if one examines Franklin closely, they'll notice that he's using the animations of the .
  • โ—†After completing the mission, Franklin will temporarily get infinite ammo for the pistol.
  • โ—†A Weazel News report on the radio and an internet article, will both say that Chad Mulligan's Z-Type was stolen and that the Z-Type cost him $3 million, even though the regular Z-Type price is $10 million. However, a Bleeter post claims that Mulligan's Z-Type cost $10 million. This could be a developer's oversight.
  • โ—†Weazel News will report on the radio that Chad Mulligan was killed in the mission if the player kills him, however, an internet article will report that Chad is alive, regardless of his fate. A Bleeter post will also say that Chad is dead, also independently of the player's actions. This is probably an oversight of the game, similar to what happens after the mission Hood Safari.
  • โ—†The news broadcast that mentions Ashley Butler's death will appear after this mission.
