Assault Rifle

The Assault Rifle is Shrewsbury's fully automatic 7.62mm assault rifle, also known as the AK-47. Its GTA V design follows the AK pattern, specifically a Chinese AK-47 variant with a side-folding stock, while using a gas block like other AK variants. It replaces the older wooden fittings with Picatinny rails for attachments. The standard magazine holds 30 rounds.

Ammu-Nation sells the Assault Rifle for $3,500 from the start of the game. It can also be found at the gazebo of an orange mansion on Ace Jones Drive in Vinewood Hills, beside the traffic island at Road Fork, near Stoner Cement Works in the Grand Senora Desert, at Fort Zancudo's east entrance, in Raton Canyon, on Paleto Bay's northern hill and underwater around Wrecks. Gang members can carry it, as can military personnel at Fort Zancudo and prison officers at Bolingbroke Penitentiary.

The rifle is useful at long range early on and performs better there than handguns or submachine guns, but it has less power, accuracy and fire rate than the Carbine Rifle. Other assault rifles surpass it later. Michael carries a suppressed Assault Rifle during the smart approach to The Jewel Store Job, uses one in The Wrap Up and can acquire one during the subtle approach to The Big Score. Trevor fires one from Ron's Cuban 800 in Nervous Ron, while Franklin uses one in Fresh Meat. Merryweather guards carry it in The Merryweather Heist and The Third Way.
