The Outlaw's Return

John Marston returns to Beecher's Hope after fulfilling the government's demands. Abigail and Jack greet him at the ranch, and the family is together again. Their home has not prospered in their absence. Uncle, left to look after the place, has allowed the livestock to disappear, with animals lost to predators or taken by rustlers. John decides that he and Jack will travel to MacFarlane's Ranch for replacement cattle the following morning.

John rides with Jack to MacFarlane's Ranch. Along the road, Jack presses his father with questions, while John answers as they continue across New Austin. At the ranch, Drew MacFarlane tells John that Bonnie is with the herd. John and Jack find her among the cattle, and Bonnie agrees to help them drive the animals away from the ranch.

Bonnie leads the herd out, then John takes charge of moving it toward Beecher's Hope with Jack alongside him. They guide the cattle across the river and continue toward the ranch. Once they are clear of the crossing, mounted members of the Bollard Twins Gang attack, intending to take the herd. John kills the rustlers and keeps the cattle moving home.

John brings the herd back to Beecher's Hope and drives it into the pen. With the ranch stocked again, he hitches his horse by the stable. Jack joins him there as the work at the homestead resumes.
