Dog (RDR2)

The Dog, Canis familiaris, is a domestic animal found throughout Red Dead Redemption 2. Its breeds are American foxhound, Australian shepherd, Bloodhound, Bluetick coonhound, Border collie, Catahoula cur, Chesapeake Bay retriever, Labrador retriever, Mutt, Poodle, Siberian husky and Treeing walker coonhound. Each breed has its own Compendium entry. Dogs live around settlements and nearby homesteads, including the towns, ranches and farms across the frontier.

Dogs can be praised, patted or scolded, making them the only animals with these interaction options. They cannot be lassoed or skinned for resources. Bringing a dog carcass into camp draws negative comments from camp members, and killing a dog is treated as Animal Cruelty, whether it is hostile or not. It almost always costs honor. The exception is a pursuing lawdog that is slowly trampled under a horse.

Bounty hunters use Bloodhounds as lawdogs when pursuing their target. In Red Dead Online, American Foxhounds, Labrador retrievers, Chesapeake Bay retrievers, Siberian huskies and Australian Shepherds can be bought from the Wilderness Outfitters through JB Cripps and placed at camp. The Treeing walker coonhound is exclusive to PS4. A camp dog barks to warn of nearby players.
