The Heron is a marsh bird in Red Dead Redemption 2, represented by the Great Blue Heron, Ardea herodias, and the Tricolored Heron, Egretta tricolor. Great Blue Herons have blue-grey back feathers, while Tricolored Herons can be recognised by blue and red feathers along their backs. Both species are carnivores, feeding on fish, crustaceans and amphibians, with small birds included in the Great Blue Heron's diet and insects in the Tricolored Heron's.

Herons live in Lemoyne's wet, grassy marshland. They are most often found along the water in Bayou Nwa and around the puddles of Bluewater Marsh, and also appear on the coast of Scarlett Meadows by Flat Iron Lake. Great Blue and Tricolored Herons mingle in the same areas, frequently gathering in groups beside rivers, pools and marshy shorelines. Their range is limited to these waterside parts of Lemoyne.

A Varmint Rifle is suited to killing either species cleanly. Skinning a heron provides a Heron Plume, Flight Feathers and Gamey Bird Meat, alongside the Heron Carcass. The plumes are crafting materials, while the meat can be cooked. Heron Plumes are also collected for the second exotic request in "Duchesses and Other Animals", which calls for 20 plumes regardless of which heron species provides them.
