Player notes
Khan the Jaguar is a legendary jaguar in Red Dead Redemption, based on Panthera onca. He is the game's only jaguar, although he uses the same movement, attacks and growl as a cougar. Khan is considerably stronger and faster than ordinary cougars, making him a more dangerous member of the cougar class.
In Single Player, Khan appears around Ojo del Diablo during the Master Hunter Rank 9 ambient challenge. He is encountered by searching the Ojo del Diablo region, and appears more often by day. In Multiplayer, he appears at Tanner's Reach in Tall Trees, West Elizabeth, after waves of cougars have been killed. His arrival is marked with a red skull on the mini map.
Killing Khan provides Khan's Pelt, Khan's Meat, Khan's Fang and Khan's Heart. These parts can be sold at Blackwater or Manzanita Post. Khan therefore functions as the rare quarry for the Master Hunter challenge in Single Player and as a special animal encounter following cougar waves in Multiplayer.
Trivia
- โKhan's name could be a reference to "Shere Khan", the man-eating tiger antagonist of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book.
- โThe game files lists Khan as a cougar, as it shares many characteristics with an actual cougar.
- โHe is the only legendary animal that is not part of any animal species in the game.
- โJaguars' range in real life reached into the southwestern U.S. and northern Mexico; by 1911, many of them were exterminated, primarily by human activity. Some individuals still live there in the modern era.
- โKhan is the only jaguar in the entire Red Dead series that can be encountered. The Legendary Giaguaro Panther from Redemption 2 has a similar name and spots, but is of indeterminate species, since it simply resembles a cougar with rosettes.
- โDespite being called a jaguar his appearance is more of a leopard, you can tell it because jaguars have bigger rosettes with inner spots while leopards have smaller rosettes without inner spots
