The Loon is a bird represented by three species: the Common loon, Pacific loon and Yellow-billed loon. Common loons inhabit calm wetlands across West Elizabeth, Ambarino and New Hanover. Pacific loons live around the remote lakes and ponds of those regions, while Yellow-billed loons occur in the wetlands of West Elizabeth and Ambarino. Their scientific names are Gavia immer, Gavia pacifica and Gavia adamsii.
Loons appear at scattered waterside locations, though they do not occur in The Heartlands, Grizzlies West or New Austin. A large population gathers on the large island off the eastern side of Flat Iron Lake. They are also found at Owanjila and along the Upper Montana River. The birds are small, and a Bow fitted with Small Game Arrows is effective against each of the three species.
The Common loon eats crustaceans, amphibians, salamanders, frogs, leeches and snails. Pacific loons feed on small fish and aquatic insects, adding some plant matter in breeding seasons, while Yellow-billed loons take small to medium fish and aquatic insects. A killed loon can provide Loon Feather, Flight Feather, Gamey Bird Meat and a Loon Carcass. Its meat is used as food, and its feathers are used for crafting.
