Player notes
Moose are massive, horned herbivores in Red Dead Redemption 2, based on Alces alces. The game includes the Western Bull Moose and the Western Moose. The bull carries antlers, while the Western Moose is the cow variant. Both feed on willow and birch shoots, aquatic plants and forbs, and move through water as well as across land.
Western Bull Moose are native to West Elizabeth. Western Moose inhabit remote wooded country in West Elizabeth, Ambarino and New Hanover. They appear around Aurora Basin, Cairn Lake, Strawberry, Wapiti Indian Reservation and Willard's Rest, as well as Big Valley, Owanjila, Roanoke Ridge, Tall Trees, Grizzlies East and Grizzlies West.
As animals in the massive class, moose require powerful hunting equipment. A Bow with Improved Arrows or a long scoped rifle is effective against them. A kill yields Moose Fur, Moose Antler and Mature Venison. Fur and antlers are used in crafting, and a Western Bull Moose Antler is required for the Main Campfire camp upgrade called "Moose Antlers."
Trivia
- โMoose are notoriously rare and are one of the most (if not the most) difficult animals to come by. Even in their confirmed spawn locations, they are not guaranteed to spawn. This has led to some in-game jokes about Moose being even more legendary than the actual Legendary Moose.
- โThe Compendium image for the Western Moose incorrectly shows a female Elk instead a female moose.
- โMoose, with the exclusion of Legendary Animals, are the largest naturally spawning animals in Red Dead Redemption 2. By height, they are taller than the other megafauna in the game, such as the Alligator, Bison, and Oxen.
- โThe information on their diet mistakenly says they are omnivores, but in reality, moose are herbivores and do not eat meat. This is likely to be an error.
