Player notes
The Mule is a hybrid animal, produced from a male donkey and a female horse. In Red Dead Redemption 2, it is represented by the regular Bay Mule, with a separate Painted Mule appearing as a special version. It can be ridden as a mount and tied to a hitching post, placing it among the game's usable working animals.
Mules are found around Emerald Ranch, Guthrie Farm and Caliga Hall. They cannot be kept in a stable or fitted with a saddle, unlike horses that can become the player's regular mounts. Their use is therefore more limited than that of a stabled horse, even though they can be ridden and hitched where encountered.
A Mule can carry pelts and animal carcasses on its back. It provides transport for these hunting materials without becoming a permanent saddled mount. The Painted Mule is made to resemble a zebra and appears during the mission "He's British, of Course." Mules yield no loot.
Trivia
- โThe regular mule as well as the zebra-painted mule can be spawned via the cheat code "You want something new".
- โMules can be sold for zero cents at the horse fence, though Clay Davies will occasionally incorrectly refer to the mule as a donkey and the game itself will refer to the mule as a horse.
- โLike donkeys, mules do not have an explicitly defined breed and do not heavily resemble any of the horse breeds available in the game.
