Player notes
The Sparrow is a small bird in Red Dead Redemption 2 represented by the American Tree Sparrow, Eurasian Tree Sparrow and Golden Crowned Sparrow. The American Tree Sparrow is native to the grasslands of West Elizabeth and New Hanover. The Eurasian Tree Sparrow also lives in those grasslands, while the Golden Crowned Sparrow occurs in their brushier stretches.
Sparrows appear across almost all of the map, absent from Gaptooth Ridge, Cholla Springs and Río Bravo. They are uncommon in Hennigan's Stead and Grizzlies West. The three varieties are omnivores: American Tree Sparrows eat berries, seeds and insects; Eurasian Tree Sparrows eat seeds, grains and insects; Golden Crowned Sparrows feed on insects, grubs, seeds, berries and flowers.
As small birds, sparrows can be taken down with a Bow and Small Game Arrows, which provides a clean kill. Their drops include Sparrow Feather, Flight Feather, Gamey Bird Meat and Sparrow Carcass. Sparrow feathers are used in crafting.
Trivia
- ◆Both the golden-crowned sparrow and American tree sparrow have a model of another species, the lark sparrow (Chondestes grammacus), which is a species normally found in the "Wild West".
- ◆Eurasian tree sparrows are extremely rare even in the Midwest United States, where they are located. They are strictly found in parts of Missouri and Illinois. The common town species, the house sparrow (Passer domesticus), is not featured in RDR2.
