Player notes
The Turtle is a small shelled reptile in Red Dead Redemption 2, based on the Alligator Snapping Turtle and the Green Turtle. Its scientific names are Macrochelys temminckii and Chelonia mydas. It has wet, scaly skin and a large pointed shell covering its back.
Alligator Snapping Turtles occur in Bayou Nwa, along Stillwater Creek and on the eastern island of Flat Iron Lake. They inhabit wet ground and waterlogged country, where their dark shells can be seen close to the marshes and shoreline.
Turtles move very slowly compared with other animals, making them easy to catch. A single arrow or bullet kills one. Skinning or collecting a Turtle provides Herptile Meat and a Turtle Carcass.
Trivia
- โGreen Turtles are very difficult to spot during normal gameplay at Guarma; they can be studied, but can only be found occasionally if the player makes a sprint towards their spawn location at Bahia De La Paz. Green Turtles cannot be skinned. They are also not added to the Compendium, but Arthur or John (who can only access Guarma via game exploits) will make sketches in their journal.
