Player notes
Curtis Malloy is the sheriff of Valentine, keeping order from the town's sheriff's office with his deputies. Scarred and stern, he treats lawbreaking as a personal affront and oversees the town's arrests, cells and public executions. Arthur Morgan first deals with him through the bounty board outside his office, where Malloy posts warrants for Benedict Allbright and Ellie Anne Swan. When Arthur brings the prisoners in, Malloy takes custody of them and later says he is suspending further bounty work to concentrate on the trouble in Valentine itself.
Malloy also receives people Arthur delivers outside the formal bounty work. He accepts an O'Driscoll captured after a prison wagon break and an abusive husband from a domestic dispute. He takes in the Killer Prostitute after her murders are exposed, pays Arthur for bringing her to justice, then reads her crimes to the crowd before ordering her hanging. He performs the same duty at other executions in Valentine, including that of the abusive husband if the man's wife dies.
During "American Dreams", Arthur brings the captured Edmund Lowry Jr. to the sheriff's office. Malloy removes Lowry's restraints and puts him in a cell, but the serial killer attacks him. Arthur can shoot Lowry while Malloy struggles on the floor, or Malloy eventually kills him himself. Away from the cell, Malloy conducts an affair with the married Moira Calthorpe, and an argument over her ending it is followed by sounds of an assault. He remains sheriff of Valentine in 1907.
Trivia
- โAccording to the bartender at Smithfield's, the town's crooked stockyard auctioneer, Morris Peyton, bribes Malloy to ignore his illegal purchases of stolen livestock from rustlers.
- โMalloy appears to have two family members named Molly and Victoria (Victoria was his mother, as stated on her tombstone), who passed away. Their graves can be found by the Valentine church.
- โUnlike many other NPCs, Malloy's appendages cannot be shot off.
- โIf the player enters the sheriff's office to report the Killer Prostitute, a glitch may occur where Sheriff Malloy and his deputy can be seen sitting in the same chair, but only one of them will respond to the player and they will have the same voice.
- โMalloy will sometimes refer to the Valentine Sheriff's Office as the New Hanover Sheriff's Office.
- โA letter from Moira can be looted from Curtis Malloy. In this letter, Moira writes that she is increasingly worried about their affair being found out and that she wants to end their relationship, while also belittling him.
